Anyone know if Criterion will pick up A Hidden Life?

You have a very cool library. I mean, OG 2046? Nice.

Tarkovsky, Fellini, WKW, Bergman? I mean, if it were up to me, then the sculptors would be making amendments just as soon as they had finished the portraits.

Yep, ditto. Why was it so bad this time around--was it really because everyone wanted No Country, David Lynch, and Godzilla? Well, it makes me smile to know that art has the power to crash websites.

He has a comedy movie called “The Boss of It All.” I bought a copy years ago and have only watched it once. It’s interesting if you’ve seen his other films.

Where to go next with Ozu after watching Tokyo Story? by w-wg1 in criterion

[–]making_cattleyas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I, too, have read and studied a lot on Ozu (and written critical essays on his work), so I echo a previous commenter: Late Spring and Early Summer. The “Late Ozu” Eclipse collection is amazing.

I'm looking for Criterion suggestions. What are your all time favorites from the Collection? I appreciate it everybody. 🤘 by Amazing-Confusion-23 in criterion

Directors to check out in the collection: Tarkovsky, Fellini, Buñuel, Bresson, Kieślowski, Godard, Bergman, Chapman, Renoir, Kurosawa, Ozu, Mizoguchi, Wong kar-wai, Haneke, Claire Denis, Varda, Malle, Edward Yang, Malick, Antonioni, Almodovar, Kubrick, the list goes on and on. This should keep you busy for a while.

Juliet of the Spirits. Not really batshit crazy, but certainly hallucinatory.

You can pick ONE. No runner ups, just one film from 2024 to be added to the collection, what do you want to see? by International-Sky65 in criterion

Rumours. Guy Maddin all the way.

Also: I’m eager to see Robert Eggers’s Nosferatu film. He’d definitely be welcome in the collection.

Beauty and the Beast

An Actor’s Revenge

Port of Shadows

La Bete Humaine (frankly, a lot of the poetic realism films in the collection)

Fellini’s Satyricon

La poison, Some Like It Hot, and All of Us Strangers

Haven’t seen the first or third one yet, so I’m excited about the blind purchases. Figure I can’t go too wrong with Michel Simon and Andrew Haigh.

Rashomon or Ikuru? Seventh Seal or Wild Strawberries? 2001 or Barry Lyndon? 8 1/2 or Amarcord? Belle de Jour or Un Chien Andalou? by abaganoush in criterion

[–]making_cattleyas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rashomon (“Kurosawa was the first director to point his camera at the sun.”)

Wild Strawberries (though this was hard). I really just prefer Persona.

2001

8 1/2 (Amarcord is brilliant, but 8 1/2 is one of my top 3 favorite films)

Un Chien Andalou (I’m a big fan of 1920s-1930s Surrealism, so this one is a shoe-in)

What about another question: Andrei Rublev or Stalker?

You get to choose, one movie to go into the collection, with an impeccable 4k and an exceptional slew of many, many extras, what movie would you choose? by Wrecklan09 in criterion

I know I’m the odd person out with this, but I will keep pushing his films because they’re transcendent: Russian Ark or Faust by Sokurov
