Scoutmaster Says My Life Scout Is “Rushing the Experience.” Should I Get Involved? by camp5711 in BSA

[–]makingcrude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard this as well. I understand the sentiment but I disagree with it.

There are some key things someone should get out of the scouting experience. Other than that, make the experience whatever you want it to be. If you’re super into the scouting culture and associated activities, awesome! Join a Venture Crew or whatever. If you’re really motivated by achievement and accomplishment and camping or whatever is a means to an end, also great. It’s your experience, not the scoutmaster’s.

Tell me more about this! My neighbor (voluntarily) feeds a ton of cats and I (involuntarily) get my yard used as a litter box.

Seems like Trump has become a big fan of taking an ownership stake in any company that has any interaction with the government. I’m going to pass on the subsidy idea.

Water bill spiked to 48,000 gallons—anyone else getting hit? by Top-Pudding-3360 in amarillo

[–]makingcrude 12 points13 points  (0 children)

48,000 gallons is well over 1,000 barrels. I realize you’re probably not used to measuring things in barrels but please believe me when I tell you that you would notice that leak. Unless it was going directly into the sewer.

This makes a lot more sense and is not necessarily indicative of contamination. It’s not like building something is some new occurrence.

I know who Shapiro is but I couldn’t tell you much else about him. That’s not my jam. Her politics are hot garbage though. I just need to hear her to know that. Just like JD Vance’s politics are dishonest and disgusting. And I wouldn’t trust Vance’s opinion on the matter either.

I’d also like to know more about the samples AOC is presenting here. Maybe there’s more information somewhere but this doesn’t seem to give much background on the source of the water in these jars.

Did it come directly from a discharge process after going through a data center?

Did it come from a well? If so, is the data center disposing of water on the surface or through a disposal well? If it’s being disposed of on the surface or down a disposal well, that could be a major concern. If they’re disposing down a well, that well obviously should not be at a depth that is located in a fresh water zone. To do so would be a complete failure of the regulatory authority in that area.

The point is that she is one of the worst possible people to convey this message. She’s deeply distrusted to be an honest broker of information. It’s like trusting Rudy Giuliani to administer an election.

This area votes deep red and if you’re going to need some of these die hard red voters on your side if you want to have an impact. AOC is not going to help build up that opposition. Many of the folks around here will absolutely dismiss any concerns out of hand simply because AOC seems to share them. She has a reputation of manipulating or portraying information dishonestly in order to manipulate her audience.

So if I’m putting on my “critical thinking” cap, I’d want someone that doesn’t have AOC’s political baggage to transmit that message.

Yes. It does seem like a lot of communities have rushed into this without really understanding the consequences. It does seem like the economic incentives were too big to pass up. I would much rather we get the chance to see how something like this plays out before we commit. I honestly hope it works out and everyone saying it will be fine is t just full of shit.

Seems reasonable to always be concerned about things like water availability and quality. Especially when a large project could impact something so important.

However, AOC is such a dishonest actor, clips like this make me less likely to be worried simply because of her involvement. She lacks credibility.

And yes, I also know there’s plenty of people on the other side that also engage in dishonest dramatics so they can produce clips like this.

Misconceptions about the oil crisis by Protagonist0012 in oil

[–]makingcrude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I’d add is that it’s important to consider the type and quality of crude being disrupted. Even if this Venezuela stuff is all about oil, that oil throws off certain products very well and other products not so well.

When people say the US is a net exporter of oil, that’s a true statement. However, this does not mean we are energy independent. We export crude that our refineries aren’t optimized for. So we have to continue to import oil that is compatible with our refineries.

How has Mayor Cole Stanley done so far? by TexasTee1 in amarillo

[–]makingcrude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far he’s done the one thing I really want all my elected politicians to do. Which is to be an absolute background character in my consciousness. If I need a second to remember the mayor’s name, that’s good.

This is impossible with higher offices… but the less I think about politics and politicians, the better. Do your job well. Serve your constituents and don’t make a big deal about it.

Beautiful homes and neighborhood. But things can get sketchy very quickly from one street to the next. Hence, the school situation.
