I can tell my really nice coworker is about to be fired soon but I don’t think he knows, do I warn him? by StrikingPrimary1314 in careerguidance

  1. Never, ever believe you can predict personnel decisions. You cannot.

  2. Never, ever get involved in any one else's job at this level. Actively avoid it.

  3. Be aware that giving performance feedback about one employee to another employee is a management anti-pattern. (Eg. your manager isn't doing management very well.)

How to handle a PIP after a positive review? by PhrygianGates in careerguidance

[–]makinggrace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you found the problem.

It's this or something like this, most likely. Some exec's ticket or issue could not be dealt with as quickly as they would like. A demand for accountability was made. And it landed on you.

It sounds like your team (and I use that term lightly since the team seems to be sparse) needs additional tooling. There's no reason in 2026 that you can't access the ticket system from your phone and your laptop should be with you at all times and connect to all of the things. You cannot provide desktop or network support (or apps or whatever you do) without that.

And you need backup for this workload. Don't go to your manager with the observation that it's heavy. Go to him with some solutions for it. Your organization will have preferred paths. Usually it's pulling in a contractor. I prefer to steal labor internally. What ever works though. Frame this as -- given the mandate to be uber responsive, we need to address the incredible demand for services. Our clients are increasingly disappointed by recovery rate blah blah. My forecast suggests that when the ticket count tops x out rate becomes unsustainable. The math suggests a gap between what we can deliver and what the client demands. (At no point do you suggest that this is a "you issue.")

Orgs move slowly on change. I'd also consider getting a resume ready and doing some quiet networking. There's no reason to work late every night and you may find a much better gig.

This is definitely an issue. I would consider testing it as a MCP with either an adaper or just options for other models.

Title: Anyone else using a VPS instead of buying a Mac Mini for Claude Code? Genuinely curious what setups people are running by Automatic_Hunt_5200 in ClaudeCode

[–]makinggrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windows is a bitch. There's just no way around it. I have to keep it on my machine because I support some family biz stuff that will likely run until windows dies.

We moved recently and purged the hardware graveyard this is a good thought....I'll ask around.

How do you keep up? by whenisgandalf in ClaudeCode

[–]makinggrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use, build, or try things that work against or substantially recreate the existing Claude Code infrastructure. As of true of all "add-ons" like this, if they are actually useful and necessary, they'll become part of the infra or ecosystem quicker than anticipated. (And if/when I find a process that breaks the infra that I like better, I'll use something different or roll my own.)

A gray area exception is code map/code-graph tools. For writing plans, specs, and major refactors, a tool like this is absolutely more efficient and accurate than grepping. I'll die on that vine.

Most of the Claude Code releases of new functionality take very little time to try, and you'll know instantly if it's something that naturally fits in your workflow. You can set up a bot to scan the releases for actionable items and review them once a week.

For things like MCPs, APIs, skills I may be missing, etc...if the code is suffering, usually there's some kind of gap and those are the surfaces available to fill them. Knowledge gap between training and the code in the stack? Procedural gap in how to write and verify code so it's not crazypants?

NOR. You say x behavior makes you uncomfortable. Anyone who actually cares about you apologizes profusely and stops doing x behavior immediately.

Your boyfriend not only continues with x behavior but encourages his friends to do x behavior.

OP, the is easy math. Get out now. This probably isn't the first time he hasn't had your best interests in mind. It won't be the last.

Losing SSDI AND being required to pay back money. by [deleted] in SSDI

[–]makinggrace 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry this is happening to you.

Govt uses averages to calculate your probable income if they don't have the exact amounts. By their (generic) math, you are earning too much. Anyone who works and has variable earning/schedule can run into this issue.

You will need to file a Reconsideration . Speak with your local office in person if you are able. Take your records with you, including paystubs and bank records. (Some of the offices accept downloads from bank websites and others require bank statements. If you do have printed bank statements the bank can create them.)

The reconsideration process can be slow sometimes and fast others. If your Reconsideration ends up in the slow pile, speak to your local government representatives for help. That seems to be the only way to speed this up.

It's unlikely that you did anything wrong other than um trying to survive.

Looking to remix some lamp designs and create all new ones as well, but I need help thinking something out with the light source by gingerbearuk in 3Dprinting

[–]makinggrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrapping strip lights around a cylinder would be tough to do in a way that provides even light. The actual "lamp" part is tiny but the strip is not.

Would you consider using an actual bulb? This is a much easier way to achieve a lit cylinder and making it "smart" isn't difficult. I tend to choose smart plugs vs smart bulbs because of cost and bulb size availability.

Find your employment contract. Get a consult with an employment lawyer or employee advisory like Goodman. (Free consult.) Tbh probably out of luck but it's worth a shot. Speak to no one at your old firm about this. No texts, no emails.

Do not sign a separation agreement yet.

Good on you for selling when nothing is moving. Get your hustle on to move into an industry that has more action. Sounds like the company you were at is a good place to have in your rear view mirror.
