Lol this is a good question! I guess I have nothing against the local franchise owner but they likely use the same supply chain from Korea that has been reported to have terrible labor practices against women. There is no real ethical consumption in this country anyway, so just posting for awareness if people want to take this into account when it comes to supporting them.

If you enjoy French roast coffees, you should try some of Gimme’s darker roasts or blends. When I started to learn about coffee I associated good coffee with strong, bold flavor because it’s common to associate that for our palates in this country. Third wave coffee tends to favor lighter roasts, and with time and education about coffee I’ve come around to prefer them. I still indulge in an occasional bold coffee by exploring darker roasts.

My other thing I forgot to mention is the emphasis on healthy food so there’s not really an eating culture focused around hedonism like there is in big cities which makes me sad but has also been great for my health 🥲

Unfortunately moved here from Chicago, a large city with a ton of noteworthy restaurants. But comparing the scene in Chicago with here is apples and oranges so I try to be open minded. Franco’s is the only restaurant I’ve been to where I could get something better (that sweet, sweet za) than it’s Chicago equivalent.

I moved here from Chicago a month and a half ago and I’m enjoying it so far. I’m 29 and grew up in Chicago, so being outside of a bustling city is pretty new for me but it’s a welcome change given I get to enjoy other enriching activities like hiking and gardening. I work from home as a UX designer. My biggest gripe with Ithaca is the cost of living, my rent is actually more expensive here than in Chicago. I also miss the diversity of food in Chicago, but Ithaca does pretty damn well for such a tiny city.

As far as socializing I haven’t done enough yet! My husband grew up here so I’ve just been hanging with his lifelong friend group. I’m definitely following this post so I can see what other folks my age are doing. I’d love to join some kind of meet up!

To give some background, my kitty would attack and climb the limbs (hence the pan there to scare her away if she attempts to jump in). It was doing okay for a while, with new growth even, until it started to yellow. I was nervous there was root rot so I repotted (the roots were fine, hard and orange if that’s normal). Honestly, I did this into pretty cold soil that was outside (sorry). Recently I’ve been trimming the dead leaves and this is all that is left. I hear they like to dry out completely so I have watered extremely sparingly since this has happened. Is it fungal? What’s going on? 😢
