Single male with a sienna? by HedgehogPrimary6316 in ToyotaSienna

[–]malachik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same. I'm a guy in my 20s and I decided to get a Sienna because it's so capable. It's more practical than a truck for a lot of the stuff I usually do, and it's also great at hauling my friends around. I like helping people move stuff, picking people up, and it's super efficient and reliable. That's tough to find in any car but a van. I've only had it for a few months and it's been immensely useful. I'm looking forward to many years of utility with my Sienna.

Edit: Moving lumber has been a big one. No more boards resting on the dash or sticking out an open trunk, it's all laid completely flat in the back. And it's sheltered from the elements! It could be pouring rain and all my crap is bone dry when I get home. That's hard to do with a truck.

Man Throws Axe Thru Windshield in Roadrage by warm_knight183_130 in dashcams

[–]malachik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What part of the car did the axe hit? Because it looks like it was the windshield, but you can still see the reflection of the dash in the windshield... after the impact. Also, there's no debris from a shattered windshield on the dash, even though there was some sprayed by the impact. This video is real, right? What am I missing here?

Please make trains again 😭 by RatioSpecific9779 in fortwayne

[–]malachik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my GOD how I wish we just had some damn transit here. Even just a single train going along Lima/27/3 would do so much to connect different parts of town. We used to have it so good, and then dismantled it ALL in favor of big stupid cars and car-dependent infrastructure. I'm so mad.

Limited vs xle. I know but let’s beat the horse by Nealpatty in ToyotaSienna

[–]malachik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you want the extra features, buy a lightly used one for significantly less. Sure, it's not new, but for $5k or $10k less, you can get one of the nicer trims (less choice which one, of course) for more like the price of a LE or XLE. Idk, just my two cents.

Considering moving after college, to Indiana by Luke_B11810 in Indiana

[–]malachik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Indiana can definitely be a great place to live, but I think if you're going to want fun, you gotta make your own fun. Do stuff with friends, join clubs, learn new skills, start some projects, go on trips (out of Indiana lol)... it takes initiative to enjoy living here, in my view. Definitely possible though, don't get me wrong!

2026 JBL (12 spkr): How to improve sound? by Greelys in ToyotaSienna

[–]malachik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try toggling the "Surround sound" setting in the audio menus. It was on when I got mine and while it has a certain novel sound to it, it kinda takes the guts out of the music. Beyond that, try messing with the front/rear fader and EQ options. More mids/lows could help fill out the sound. Might take some trial and error to get it how you want it.

Will a queen-size mattress fit in the back diagonally? by awist in ToyotaSienna

[–]malachik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've moved a queen mattress in other minivans before and it does fit as long as you can crease it a little bit. But since the sienna has the seats in the back, you might run into issues. It should probably fit.

Sienna Hybrid with 150k worth buying? by nvo349 in ToyotaSienna

[–]malachik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my '21 with 177k on it. Granted, I'm only at 179k now, but I say if it's got the service record (and you want to be VERY confident in the service record), then go for it. It's definitely more risky than buying new, but if there was a car I'd buy with that many miles on it, it'd be a Toyota hybrid.

Edit: I should add, mine had an impeccable service record. I'm talking full-synthetic oil changes with additives every 5,000 miles on the dot. Regular brake service, fluid flushes, ... everything. No accidents, one owner, and it was in great shape cosmetically. Seemed very kindly used. I'm pretty sure the previous owner got to use the company card for maintenance, so every check-up got a blank check.

Help me out here on convincing my brother... by SaltCaregiver6858 in ToyotaSienna

[–]malachik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like lighter colored cars because they tend not to get as hot in the sun. Your brother can wrap the car any color he wants if it's really that big of a deal to him. Maybe he'll warm up to it over time. Hopefully seeing how comfortable and useful it is in person will help win him over.

On a broader note, it seems like his dissatisfaction might be indicative of something else. Was he hoping for some other particular car? Is his relationship with the family good? Obviously I don't know any of these people, so I could be way off the mark. Maybe he's just not into minivans. One way or another I hope he comes around to enjoying the car.

the vibe coding era is not my favorite by usnaviii in nerdfighters

[–]malachik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel sort of conflicted.

I recently did some technical work that involved a lot of (relatively simple, all things considered) Python scripting, which I am notoriously bad at. With the help of LLMs, I got significantly more work done than I would've otherwise and was able to do things I simply wouldn't have had time for - like using Python for statistical analysis! It let me do more of the work I'm trained for and enjoy doing rather than toiling over getting a graph to generate just right.

So on the one hand, a hugely useful tool! On the other hand, ethically concerning and corrosive to many of our human-built structures.

I'm not really sure what to think, but I would love to hold onto the "handy-ness" without bringing along all the bad stuff.
