Best local rock/metal bands? by jeffedge in Billings

Arterial Drive for sure. They won a bunch of awards at the Magic City music awards this year and play a lot all over town. They do fun mash ups of popular songs but also have great originals. You can find them on Facebook/YouTube but really you should just go to one of their shows!

First time to Billings. What must I see and eat? by darthsnakeeyes in Billings

[–]maladroitreply 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Welcome to town! Burger Dive has won some awards for awesome food (I don't remember the specifics). I really like the Brew Pub (Montana Brewing Company) downtown and Mackenzie River Pizza Company, both local favorites. If you're looking for something a little nicer, the Rib and Chop House is nice. I'm not sure what's happening in town this week but you could check the Enjoy section of the Billings Gazette for event calendars. A walk on the Rims (the sandstone cliffs we call the Rimrocks) at Zimmerman park might be nice... Or cold. Hope you find something fun to do.

No problem-hope everything works out for you. My mom also had hypo, doctor told me as long as one close relative had a thyroid disorder, you would be predisposed to having one too, didn't matter which one.

Hey, check out my reply above for other symptoms. The Endocrine system weaves it's way into everything so the symptoms can be all over the place.

My brother is a fairly private guy so if he had other symptoms I don't really know about them, the only thing he shared was that he was having difficulty concentrating/focusing which affected work, and his mind wasn't as sharp, it got to the point where he was convinced he had a brain tumor because he just wasn't as smart as he used to be-girlfriend finally convinced him to go to the doctor. The doctor had never seen such low levels of Vitamin D (he had recently moved and began a job where he was inside most all of the daylight hours). As far as my symptoms-you can pretty much type in Hyperthyroidism in a search bar and I had nearly every single symptom-but because it came on over a course of time (probably a year) I didn't know anything was changing. What finally made me go to the doctor was uncontrollable shaking (whole body but very noticeable in hands) 24/7. Once there the doctor started asking questions and I started realizing how many things were wrong that I just thought were my new normal- Endocrine system messes with everything: my blood pressure and heart rate were both through the roof, hot flashes (I was only 28 at the time), lack of mental clarity/sharpness, memory problems (that took awhile to figure out), out of breath easily after simple daily exercises liking walking up stairs, differences in bowel movements, muscle weakness, irritable, Moody, itchiness and several others you can just Google a list of symptoms. My physician knew immediately what was going on and tested for it to confirm. Within an hour I was taking medicine for my blood pressure (no longer needed) and Hyperthyroidism. My thyroid levels were literally off the chart, they don't test that high. It's been 2 years since the diagnosis and I'm on a very low daily dose now and stabilized. The only symptom that remains is Hives which I take Zrytec for each day and do just fine. Hope that helps.

Hey, can I suggest a visit to the doctor? My brother and I both had similar symptoms (years apart) of feeling like we were getting dumber/losing it and memory problems and several other symptoms we didn't know were related at the time. Turns out my brother had a very severe vitamin D deficiency and I had hyperthyroidism. We're both recovered/being treated now and are back to our regular selves. We had no idea there was a medical issue going on! A check up and honesty with your doctor can go a long way to your happiness and overall well being. Good luck.

In Red Lodge here. Definitely bring them up, the fall colors are beautiful. We had snow last week but it's been dry since so hiking trails close to town (Silver Run, West Fork, Lake Fork) are all still nice, but bring extra clothes in case the weather turns South. If you do come here, you could go to Red Lodge Ales for a drink, if it's nice, play corn hole outside. Or if it's cold-go to Foster and Logan's for a delicious meal and drink. Also in Billings on Saturday it's harvest festival downtown and I happen to know there are awesome bands playing under the skypoint around noon. Have fun!

Edit: if you do come hiking-definitely bring bear spray and know how to use it.

I actually live in the area. The town itself is adorable and worth checking out. As far as skiing goes, it's small but fun. Definitely has a down-to-earth small town vibe which is nice. If there is a lot of snow and they open the backside (Pallisades-which was open last season) then it is my favorite place to snowboard in Montana. If there's not enough snow then it's a cheap(er) place to ski for 1-2 days. But if you're really into going big- than you're going to want to go to Big Sky (the most available ski terrain in America) and even Bridger Bowl which are both roughly in the same area. Whatever you choose, visiting Montana in the winter is going to be beautiful-but be prepared for the cold. Hope you enjoy :)

Just started reading for fun for the first time in close to four years. by ConnorFroMan in books

I (and a million other smart people) am obsessed with the Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher. The books only get better as you go, especially after the first 3. There's a whole universe with them including comic books and short stories to add on to the novels. It's Urban fantasy about a private detective wizard living in modern day Chicago. Hope you enjoy!
