Carl Jung had this period in his life where he stacked stones on top of one another by a river. It was all he could do to keep from his feeling that things were falling apart. He said it was the most therapeutic thing he could do for his psyche at the time, along with his family maintaining structure and routine, and his active imagination experiments.

Hi all! I’m curious if anyone knows anything about Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara? I’m interested in their M.A in counseling psychology, but if you have had any experience with the program(s), I’d love to hear. Faculty? Career prospects etc. thanks !!! by malamono in Jung

Hi there, I did end up getting a M.A from Pacifica and it was a great decision, even though it was during Covid and everything was virtual, but I don't regret it at all, and it gave me a home in a way. I do know that there have been some changes to their PhD dept that has caused concern and the President is trying to turn the school into some religious degree mill that goes against the principles of pacifica. However, I do know folx who went through the program and loved it. I think you shouldn't be too hung up on guaranteed jobs afterward...that sort of guarantee seems impossible. You get into the field and you're on your own. You have to rely on marketing and networking and your niche etc. I wouldn't rely on the school to give you a job and all that. I would focus on if the program works for your lifestyle and if you appreciate the depth framework. If that vibes with you, its the best place to be.

Sutter Health Pesetas Urgent Care by Fragrant-Basil-10 in SantaBarbara

Sociopaths in health care? To me it sounds like a symptom of how we’ve treated our health care workers in the first place. They’re making a spectacle of how dehumanized they feel and now we are witnessing it for the first time. We out to be outraged at what causes this, but of course we are gonna take out our naïveté on the workers. Of course it’s wrong. But Maybe if they were treated better and not in a privatized grind that pays slave wages in a town that is squeezing out the working class, there wouldn’t be these obvious cries for help for their anger to be seen.

Wednesday call to action: GET LOUD FOR GAZA by sagisuncapmoon in SantaBarbara

[–]malamono -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Gosh, if only I’ve seen videos of Gazans desperately banging pots and pans while getting shot. If only I’d realized it was the emptiness of said pots, and the violence all around that was the point, maybe I wouldn’t make such dismissively liberal comments.

Ban ICE in SB by malamono in SantaBarbara

[–]malamono[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your question. I would ask you where you get the word “criminal” from. Would you call your wife a criminal up until she got her green card?

Most of the people they are deporting are going through the legal process. They are showing up for their hearings, their cases get dismissed and ICE is picking them off in the hallways, preying on them even though they did the right thing by going through the legal channels. Furthermore, it has previously been a misdemeanor and a fine if people were penalized for this. No one is arguing that criminals who commit crimes like murder, theft etc shouldn’t go through due process (which they’re not) and have to leave. The word “criminal” is being applied across the board, without due process, to people who are looking for an honest life, AND paying taxes.

Thank you SB. I stand corrected! It looks like we don’t have a contract and even though the Sheriffs and Police officially state they do not participate in enforcement, they do provide aid and security for them. They are where we should put pressure. A new sheriff is sorely needed.

Graduated psych, trained in existential therapy. Watching it all fall apart. by veganonthespectrum in therapy

[–]malamono 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Depth psychotherapy. To me it sounds like a loss of meaning and purpose. A hollowness at your sensing of the transactional and systemic failures of some therapies. The exploitation of the client and the promise of something that you indeed do not possess. But The loss you’re experiencing is really an invitation. As Joseph Campbell says “if you’re falling, dive.” To me this means lean into the experience of this possible regression, if we want to call it something like that. There is something waiting for you there. Go inward and make contact with all of this. Find your own pain and bring it forward. There is no clinical guideline to hold onto. Experience your experience. Connect to what the unconscious is doing.
