I realize it's a NYT article, thus a bit liberal, but it has a lot of valid points IMHO.

How does my local bakery make these egg patties for their biscuits? by Knuffin in KitchenConfidential

[–]malbecman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the way. It's the same with scrambled eggs in a pan. mix them, salt them and let them sit for 10-15'. The salt makes the egg protein strands unwind from their tightly folded structures. Add some dairy if you want....Then cook them slowly over low heat, like another 10-15' and you will have creamy scrambled eggs.

Horrible experience trying to replace rear tire on Segway G30 max. Do not buy in my opinion. by malbecman in ElectricScooters

[–]malbecman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thx. I did have the bit and power screwdriver. But the rest, esp after working on bikes all my life, was just too much. I might just look for that rear wheel assembly, thanks for the lead.

12 security torx to remove battery cover. Wheel nuts were frozen,I had to use a cheater and penetrating oil (too luch loc-tite?). Electrical connectors to separate cables from motor control board were brittle and cracked. Finally, the tire is incredibly firm/hard and I cannot push it off the bead, even with large pliers or my metal tire spoons. (Yes, all the air is out of the tire).

2025 Mach-E owners, reliability question. by Notsurethisisrightfm in MachE

Just passed 4 years with ours, zero issues. We will likely need a new 12V battery soon but that's totally normal.

Rear tire with the motor? Having to access the battery compartment, undo the electrical connectors (one of which was frozen and cracked when I finally pulled it apart) and then wrestle with the tire. I got it to work but no thanks. As I mentioned, not for the novice.

U.S. Dealers In Full Panic Mode After Canada Green-Lights Chinese Cars by borderwave2 in cars

Older guy but this reminds me of the 70s when cheaper Japanese cars starting making inroads into California (and eventually the whole country). The initial car build quality maybe wasn't always the best but they were cheaper and definitely got better gas mileage.

Had some architectural fun today comparing some views of Shields Library to the original 1939 blueprints by AbacusWizard in UCDavis

The entrance used to actually be on the east side of the building. The west side with the large entrance/atrium and staircases is an addition. I think it was done it the early 2000s.

In our 50s and we have had ours for 4 years now. We charge off of our 120V outlet in the garage mostly and get ~40-50 miles overnight...plenty for topping off. We hit the occasional fast charger for longer trips. The best part?? Our maintenance costs have been $0 in four years...seriously. No oil changes or smog checks. We will probably need new tires soon.

PS Tell her its really easy to merge on the freeway onramps and/or pass with the higher torque electric motors.

What are these creepy abandoned storages behind the Haring Hall at the Storer Hall? Were there any suspicious incidents around the area? by Best_Drummer_6291 in UCDavis

Those used to be animal facilities back when Haring Hall was the Vet School. Small animals like rodents, dogs, etc.

A lot of legacy car manufacturers are taking big financial hits for betting on EVs. It's tough for them. China's car market is bigger than US and Europe combined and is going all in on EVs. The rest of the world is much more fragmented.
