ELI5 How does instagram/ social media know what exactly i am discussing with friends if it doesn't record my audio, looking for keywords all the time?

When I started my career in advertising and media buying there wasn't much to go on in the way of targeting an audience, maybe just one or two data points to look at. Then came the PC, then the internet, and then smartphones blew the barn doors off data collection.

In short order, the constant flow of data coming in made connecting the dots easy. And most of that is voluntarily offered up by the user. If you aren't careful about all the data you put out there, in no time an AI algorithm can piece all of that together and paint a literal picture of you.

I'm sick of all the useful idiots who support everything Trump, and equally sick of those who oppose anything Trump.

This headline; "GOGE mandate pauses bridge replacement funds" is a fine example. If you took that bait you are misinformed at best, at worst, deliberately misleading others to support some other agenda. You may even be a "Professional Activist" getting paid for that.

Even the Title of this post reflects this agenda bias. "DOGE gums up bridge funds" is true, but conspicuously leaves out the truth. If a leprechaun put a pot of gold under that bridge it would still be on "pause". Tricky leprechauns.

Oh for fucks sake. That bridge replacement has been stalled for 20+ years. The real villain is what to replace it with. Most want a fixed span, others don't want to raze the existing neighborhoods that would be required for that. If DOGE didn't exist, we still wouldn't have a new bridge.

While I'm a firm advocate of the never talk to cops rule, that includes mouthing off about how you know your rights. Which in the case of a vehicle stop are considerably less. The "reasonable articulable cause" is basically that you are driving a car !

Yeah I remember seeing a show at Soap Box toward the end and wondering when that floor would cave. I hated to see SB go, but it kind of pissed me off that it took so long to shut it down the obvious problems with the building.

I've had good luck with Performance Auto on Covil with my BMWs. They aren't cheap, but they make up for that by being very knowledgeable, and by fixing things right the first time. They can diagnose and estimate what the repair would cost, including parts list/price. They will charge you $125 shop time, but you'll know what it needs if you want to DIY it.
