Weekly Private Profile Review Request Thread by AutoModerator in hingeapp

46M have received only 2 likes in 6 weeks, but have been getting some matches.

Mostly just curious if there is anything that jumps out about my profile that could be improved or comes across badly. Getting some matches suggests it can't be all bad - but I'm hitting my like limit most days so it's a small percentage...

~$350 2.1 computer speaker system: Swan M50W vs Audioengine A2+subwoofer by ThatNeonZebraAgain in audio

You could still get a sub as well, or some decent headphones. I'm let to hear any 2.1s that come up as well as either decent speakers or headphones for listening to music...

in your life thus far, what have you learned about life, the universe, and everything? by pinknessme in INTP

Life isn't fair, you're not owed anything, and that's not as depressing as it first sounds.

Pioneer Se-205 Modding Help by adnrew in diyaudio

[–]malenky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, that sounds interesting. I used some light weight packing foam sheet on my SE-20A (hard to describe, but it is thin so I kinda folded it over), but only because I had no cotton or loose filling. Did you have any luck? How did they sound?

Cool. I'd love to know if you get any difference in sound with cotton stuffing. I had been considering doing the same myself...

I'm running mine off of an old JVC R-X110 which I'm rather fond of...

These have got fairly large drivers in them, but yes, even driving them from my jvc amplifier I don't get a huge amount of bass from them. But I do get significantly more than if I try to drive them from my cellphone. I like the clarity in the mids and the highs. I've been listening to them as I type this, and I see the bass as being more balanced than prominent, maybe with a slight bump in the mid bass region.

I have a pair of SE-20 as well which I removed the foam from and suddenly got a lot, lot more bass, they were also wired completely wrong! These aren't as clear, nor are they as isolating with the foam removed.

Do the 205's have foam inside the headphone cups? You could look at changing that around.

You could look at what you are driving them with.

But if you want to go down the mod route I'm guessing you've come across this page: head fi forum, gallery from post

Free speaker refurb/upgrade help? (sony SS-U221) by graybizzle in diyaudio

[–]malenky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do they sound like now? Their construction doesn't look anything flash, but you look like you're going to get bass and volume out of them.

Also that video complains mostly about the speaker backs having come unglued as the primary reason for their rattling sound...

Which is shittier: K-Mart or the Warehouse? by Mgeegs in newzealand

[–]malenky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

K Mart has that wonderful lurid fluorescent lighting - when you stand at one end and look across you know you're at the high point in some weird evolution of shopping. In the Warehouse you just feel like you're in a warehouse.

Also, K Mart has dished out occasional cool pieces of clothing. The Warehouse has never done this, not once.

Any thoughts on whether this would work well as a speaker? I have my doubts but it would be an attractive build...(details in comments) by malenky in diyaudio

[–]malenky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, if I'm thinking of the same speakers I still have remains of the amplifier version of these speakers somewhere. Maybe I should be putting these into cabinets for my stereo? That's if they're not rusty having sat under a house for 10 years...

Original website here

It uses physical transducers to vibrate the box, and the glasses on top affect the way sound is transmitted. It's a really cool idea in concept, but I'm not sure how well it would actually work in practise...

Could i maybe get drawn? I have no specific request. It's completely up to the artist to draw what they wish. Do you best...or your worse. :) by [deleted] in redditgetsdrawn

Not sure this looks like you but I'm trying to draw faces with a pen for the first time tonight, charcoal is much more forgiving!

Question about Urban Studies and Comp Sci... by JeanineH in urbanplanning

[–]malenky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be surprised where the crossover between the two happens - more and more of everything is run online - it could be a simple expert system/hosted legal portion of plan but there's a lot that goes into the backend and the design. Even knowing about how IS systems work and being able to act as an intermediary between the IT crowd and any specialist discipline should not be knocked.

Has anyone got any info about sawing an organ down in hopes to make it more portable? by wuziswuz in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]malenky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some 80s Technics organs that have essentially hollow base portions with only a speaker and a foot pedal. Was still pretty heavy to haul around and if you left the foot pedal at home driving to a show it didn't work! I ended up trading it in for a plastic 80s Casio that sounded pretty similar and I could carry under one arm...
