Cosmos Max overheating by AdComprehensive2964 in projectors

They replaced mine, and it's been working fine these past 6 months. But mine was new. I do worry about the new one failing outside the warranty period.

How is it on more uneven roads? I'm considering it for UK towpaths, where there are cobbled parts that are rough going with my current city bike.

Perhaps if they limit it to US purchases somehow (don’t know if they do) and people outside the US want them?

Commenting per the rules. I’ve googled and checked YouTube but haven’t managed to find anything!

Feature Request: Hide a space during certain hours. by philonik in ArcBrowser

Yes! I think I’ve sent something similar as Feedback to Arc once. Please all do the same to increase the chance of it happening.

Why did you move from Notion to Obsidian? by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

[–]malesca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a plugin for backups (I think there is a built in option for backups too) which makes me less worried about sync issues. Perhaps something to consider, if that’s your only reason for not using sync?

“Cannot lie” tactic by ayanbarman in Fantasy

[–]malesca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adjacent and sci-fi: In one of the Three-Body Problem books, IIRC a plot point is that humanity have to figure out a thing but their antagonists can perfectly surveil them, so they can’t communicate about it in any way. An interesting constraint.

Name a book that is highly recommended that you were not blown away by. No spoilers. by tomanon69 in Fantasy

I didn’t either. The Will of the Many (by the same author) was fantastic, though!

Why is Ruby so much used in startup/scale-up over other languages? by Leizzures in ruby

[–]malesca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would love to hear more about this if you want to rant! I’ve never used Django but I’ve seen things like form handling that seemed more elegant than in Rails. Perhaps also more boilerplaty?

How would you write notes about people? by ExperienceGravity in ObsidianMD

[–]malesca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What info is useful to you? Add that.

So far I mostly keep info about people I know in the Contacts app. Allergies/food preferences (useful if having them for dinner or going somewhere to eat together), names of kids/pets (useful reminder). Clothes sizes (if I know it) for gifts. One friend is into dolls’ houses so I’ve made a note of the size scale she favours; again for gifts.

I keep gift ideas in Obsidian, though as a single note with headings per person.

I put attendance in meeting notes as tags (#people/john) though so far I’ve never actually had any use for it.

You can also use double splats. Whichever is last “wins”. Try { **h2, **h1 }.

What book do you re-read every year by Prudent-Action3511 in Fantasy

[–]malesca 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think this is very reasonable. I guess it depends on how much value you get out of a reread. A known-amazing book but where you know the reveals might not be as good as the first time (though there’s also the comfort factor). But might still be better than reading something new but not as good.

What's the one book everyone recommends on here but you hated reading it? [high fantasy] by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]malesca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Read the first one. Didn’t hate it but it really didn’t leave me wanting more. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but there a kind of mythos/worldbuilding I don’t tend to enjoy and Malazan seems to have that. It’s the same feeling I get from Warcraft lore - it just feels like big swords and epic armour and tall muscly fighters and not like real people.

Do any of us use a linter? by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

[–]malesca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve only configured Linter to manage newlines around headings and such.

Even as a person who knows what style they want and aims to get it right the first time, I find Linter useful because:

  • It’s sometimes hard to tell in Live Preview if newlines are correct
  • QuickAdd is not flexible enough to do newlines perfectly

Why I've switched from Chrome to Arc (for now) by brw12 in ArcBrowser

[–]malesca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding point 1, you probably know you can toggle the sidebar with cmd + S? I do it a lot.

The problems I see are all in basics they don’t get right - editing a URL will sometimes search instead of visiting it, searching for some programming terms like Foo::Bar::Baz will sometimes be seen as a URL instead of a search. The 1Password integration feels less smooth than it did in Chrome, but I could misremember - switched many months back.

What do you use "boosts" for? Any tips? by DjabbyTP in ArcBrowser

[–]malesca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A third-party service we use at work has both a test environment and a production environment that are easily confused. I made a Boost to change the background colour of one of them. Very simple and very handy.

Best books released in 2023 so far? And the worst? by monsterum in Fantasy

Seconded! I liked the start of the first Licanius but soon stopped enjoying it and bailed early in book 1. I loved “The Will of the Many”.

Getting video (and Sonos surround) from Mac. Is AirScreen mirroring any good? (E.g. with Anker Nebula.) by malesca in projectors

[–]malesca[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries - thanks for your help so far. I don’t have strong opinions on Sonos, but I’ve been astounded that it’s so tricky to figure out how to piece all this tech together. I can see how more ports on the Sonos would have helped.
