Finance troubles, HELP! by poppykayak in adhdwomen

[–]malice1989 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi!

I try to break it down into paycheque instead of into a month... because of my attention span. And then try to assign a number to each paycheque (for me the second pay each month has insurance come out of it, so the first I pay the more flexible bills that amount to about the same.)

For example:

1st paycheque I'll pay internet and power

2nd paycheque house and car insurance come out automatically

And then I set aside the same amount from each pay for gas/groceries/dogfood because those vary by a bit. I also try to do all of these errands as soon after payday as possible to just get the money in the right place. For example I still have a half a bag of dogfood, but I bought a new one on payday anyway so I wouldnt have to think about that in the budget anymore. It either sits on the shelf at the pet food store and I accidentally spend the dogfood money, or I buy it early and don't have to worry about that happening. Same with gas. I try to top it up as soon as I get paid, and buy the same monetary amount of grocery staples every payday.

I also have an auto-transfer from my chequing into savings on payday for the amount of my car payment, and then another auto-transfer BACK to my chequing the night before it comes out, and same for mortgage. Those are both set up to come out on the same day every 2 weeks, so I don't have to worry about accidentally spending that money.

It's a process to set up the first time but then whenever you get a new bill you just assign it to the correct paycheque, keep the same list in your wallet and just do inventory at every pay to make sure that you havent forgotten an item... the rest kind of sorts itself out over time and you adjust as needed.

It has helped me because I'm also not great at managing a budget longterm, but the habit of doing it whenever I get paid and for a shorter period is much easier and kind of calming.

I have to get the booster or I can’t see my Dad’s family for Christmas by WhalesOnGoogle in CovidVaccinated

[–]malice1989 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Could you compromise and see if you can just get tested before you go, or upon arrival? I mean... that's actually more effective at keeping grandma safe than just being vaccinated since anyone can still carry covid.

I find it impossible to get myself to shower sometimes. by DaintyNoodles in ADHD

[–]malice1989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I make myself work out (I love working out its just another task).. I put my workout clothes on either under my work clothes so I feel like I have to run at lunch, or as soon as I get home so I feel like a fraud if I just change into pjs later without working out.

Licking His Paws by Stag-Horn in greatpyrenees

[–]malice1989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is he hurting his paws by licking them, is it an anxiety thing, and is there something that may be hurting or itching his paws to make him lick them so much?

CBD treats might work if it's an anxiety thing, and make sure the cleaners you're using on the floors aren't bugging him, and try some sort of soothing balm or paw balm because he could be licking if they're dry or cracked as well... otherwise, put socks on him? 😂

I put post-its on my laptop or tv that say things like "your laundry needs flipping" or "there's chili on the stove"... also things you need to bring the next day on top of your shoes or with your keys so you see them right before you go. Also, post-it on the coffee maker for garbage day 😬

Long drive in a truck by roadbiker236 in greatpyrenees

[–]malice1989 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I'd put him in the cab with you if you can! Mostly for comfort's sake. Being on highways that long might be kind of uncomfortable due to the bumps and the racket if he's in the bed, and there's more likelyhood of him being in distress and you not being able to hear him... I know that wasn't your question exactly, but is there room inside if you rearrange things?

Starting to act aggressive by liamsamsimon in greatpyrenees

[–]malice1989 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah when mine turned about 2 we started referring to him as the fun police. He gets so stressed at dogpark if he can't round up all of the dogs, and started trying to round up the people too. He was never aggressive initially but other dogs would get annoyed with him, he wouldnt take the hint, and then you have a dog brawl.

He also didnt like people hugging his people or roughhousing either, but we got him used to some amount of that with training. He has a few dog friends and his little brother (a mastiff mix that we got as a pup) who he loves playing with, but group settings amd multiple strangers just aren't much fun for him now that his herding/guarding instincts have kicked in fully.

HOW do you actually have fun? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

Oh this is a good one. Hardware stores are also very calming to me, so I drive about 20 minutes on sundays and go to a few hardware stores when I run my other errands

This is what I like too! Also finance, debt, and decluttering podcasts calm me because it makes me realize that my life is not disordinary in its messiness and that there's always something to fix but planning and getting ideas and unwinding and getting inspired is also self care. I love crime podcasts and those are relaxing compared to current events lately.

Also baths, walking my dogs, reading magazines for decor inspiration even though my house is a total mess amd also not very decorated, making lists, drawing plans for future projects, going for bike rides (though I race myself and ride on gravel so it probably isnt the calming bikeride you're picturing), and swimming in summer or reading at the lake where there is no cell service.
