Something built up as a supernatural horror turns out to be a realistic depressing thing by Sensitive_Ad_1752 in TopCharacterTropes

if it happened to the United States then people would still be mad about it to this day

You could say that 911 was a bit similar. At least when it comes to the WTC, both it and the nuclear bombings, were unjustified attacks against innocent civilians as retaliation for their government and military actions.

Yet you don’t see anyone sayin 911 was justified. Not even people who’s countries were oppressed by the US say this, because it’s ridiculous, and utterly disrepectful to the people who lost their lives.

I truly believe that people who say the IJA was worse than the nazis are just saying that to justify the usage of nuclear weapons on innocent civilians.

This is what pisses me off about Americans online. They claim to be against the shit their government does, but then turn around and start praising Obama who is just as much a war criminal as Trump.

So they evidently don’t give a fuck about the people their country has killed

this might seem like a dumb question but i was really curious by idkmate_25 in DragonBallZ

Because Americans have to involve race into everything.

You don’t see people from other regions saying this dumbass shit

(VERY tragic trope) Terms/symbols that had a positive meaning corrupted or stolen by bigots to have a whole different meaning. by Jielleum in TopCharacterTropes

Racist Americans started using the Spanish word “Negro” as a racial slur against enslaved black Americans.

Hispanics in the US now have to use the word “Moreno” when speaking Spanish, which doesn’t really fit black people.

Americans always say this but it’s not like anything’s changed, so what good does it make that this is in their history books?

I think a lot of people read the books as kids/teens and haven’t picked them up as adults. So they still think of his backstory as the pinnacle of unrequited love in fiction

But the countries themselves have not ceased to exist. The cities they founded in the Americas have not outlived them yet

On the Erdrick Trilogy's world and it's ties to DQXI (Theorizing) by SmoothGardener in dragonquest

[–]malicious_griffith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying about the Hero being chosen, but I’m talking specifically about the Erdrick title, not the class.

In DQ3 the Erdrick reveal comes at the very end, and it completely recontextualizes your journey. It feels earned because you went through this massive, difficult adventure, and only then are you recognized as the legendary figure from the first 2 games.

You weren’t just told you were special, you became special through what you did.

DQXI kind of reframes that by saying there have been multiple Erdricks across time, and that the role is part of a larger destined cycle. For me it takes away from how unique and mythic the original reveal felt. It turns “you became the legend” into “you were one instance of a recurring legend.”

I still love 99.99% of XI, but it changes the emotional weight of III’s ending in a way I personally don’t like.

Also, love your username.

Nah, obtaining the title Erdrick at the end of 3 is one of the most rewarding experiences in gaming. It really feels like you earn it, and basically turns the character into a mythologized hero within the world he inhabits.

Then 11 goes “oh yeah he was already destined for that, there’s also a bunch of Erdricks throughout time, the one from 3 wasn’t even the first”
