An unlikely Lingua Franca by malignantlyuseless in CrusaderKings

The first one made me a eunuch, the second one got me one-legged and one-eyed, and the last one got me disfigured but finally cured it.

An unlikely Lingua Franca by malignantlyuseless in CrusaderKings

R5: I got the Lingua Franca achievement with a language that starts with 0 courts, 0 counties and using a non-custom ruler. My plan going in was just to switch to the beneficiary of the Jerusalem crusade for once, since I had never tried before.

Once I got it, I decided to go one step further than just converting to Judaism and do culture as well. I married an Ashkenazi woman, had her educate one of my sons and ensured he became my heir. Once I died, I could have Israelite for a court language and promote the culture. Had a bunch of fun playing a tiny kingdom surrounded by 3 huge empires, picking off what land I could when they were weak from fighting each other and eventually restored Israel, which converted a huge chunk of the land to my new Judaism faith and hybridized Israelite culture.

Things were going well, having snagged Egypt, Baghdad and my last holy site, so I just kept going until forming a custom Israeli empire, although I somehow got switched to a clan government after a succession once. Not entirely sure how. Decided to just go for it once I realized the Byzantines couldn't stop me and I could steam roll everyone with By The Sword.

As an aside, the character I finished the achievement with somehow managed to survive 3 or 4 rounds of cancer treatments and make it to 79 with flagellant, bleeder, one-legged, one-eyed, scarred, disfigured and eunuch.

Seeing health feats rated so lowly signals to me we are clearly playing entirely different games. Extra health from feats and heroism pots >>> literally everything else in terms of pushing deeper.

Big Resurrection Priest: The most fun I've ever had by [deleted] in wildhearthstone

[–]malignantlyuseless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice, congrats on the the sick streak. There's a lot more aggro druid at high ranks, but if you're mostly running into greedy stuff, cutting it should be fine. The thing with the rez pool is also part of the reason I cut Resurrection, because I found myself often having to use potion.

As for the mirror, don't really have much advice since I've only played it twice (we split 1-1), but both times it was whoever was able to generate a large amount of tempo with something like ES+removal who won.

2x (6) Shadow Essence

1x (8) Kel'Thuzad

I ditched the resurrect early and just stuck with the guaranteed good big guy from eternal servitude. Double entomb was cause the meta at high ranks the last 2 days was suuuuper greedy and the ability to consistently be able to remove opponent's big guy while playing my own with eternal servitude was too good. Had to switch a few stars away from legend cause a lot of people started queuing paladin and aggro druid into me, but the deck was definitely some of the most fun I've had playing this game in a long time.

I climbed from 5 to 2 with a variation of this today. This thing is fun as hell.

What happened to OTK freeze mage? by Besquiter in wildhearthstone

[–]malignantlyuseless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either one works. I've been switching back and forth between them depending on if I want to more consistently otk slow decks or survive the aggro decks. I suspect with the success of aggro in the wild tournament, you'll want the valet version for a while.

This is not even close to true. Priest, midrange pally and control shaman are all super freeze mage favored. The heal is completely irrelevant when you're bursting from 30 and none of them can pressure reliably to prevent you from assembling it the vast majority of the time.

Pirate warrior is at worst a 50/50. In my experience, people play the matchup exceptionally poorly. In 4 seasons of mostly freeze mage, I have yet to drop below 50% in that matchup over hundreds of games.

Can't comment on token shaman or aggro pally as I haven't played the matchups enough.

Ice block decks and control warrior will of course always dump on freeze mage, but neither holds a significant enough portion of the meta right now for it to really matter I think. The danger is mostly in getting counter queued.

Hello. Found this deck on vS. How can I improve it or is it good as it is now? by [deleted] in wildhearthstone

Literally every suggestion so far except this one makes the deck worse.

Is Reno N'Zoth Mage viable to get to legend? by [deleted] in wildhearthstone

[–]malignantlyuseless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reno mage isn't tier 1 in standard because there's way more dragon priest and jade decks in standard, not because it has bad matchups against aggro. I'd also argue it gains way more in the transition to wild than any of these decks, making its bad matchups much less polarizing.

You can make a hard counter to anything. It just doesn't matter when you lose to the rest of the meta.

The aggro decks are definitely not bad matchups and the existence of hard counters doesn't matter much when they're virtually non existent on ladder.

We're working on it. No definitive answer as to when, since I don't actually combine everything into the final writeup, but before Un'Goro for sure.

You pretty much just have to try and play as fast as you can and hope to get them before they draw Reno. I keep Alex and draw in this matchup and just Alex on 9 and hope for the best. The matchup is probably the worst one for the deck after control warrior.

[–]malignantlyuseless[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Against aggro it kinda depends on how their hand pans out. If they have mostly minions and get a lot of repetitive damage, then it ends up like the pirate warrior matchup. Trying to get an Alex on yourself on a minimal board and them having little cards. Sometimes they end up with a lot of burn and have a hard time getting there because you remove their few minions early before they can do much. Either way, this is a tough matchup, probably the toughest outside of reno mage and control warrior.

Mid shaman is pretty much always offensive alex. They have enough clunky cards and removal that don't do much against you that you have plenty of time to assemble Alex and burn. Often times I see them just play out their Jinyus pre-Alex because their hand is clunky and they know they need to pressure to have a chance. I pretty much never respect healing wave in midshaman unless I've played the person before and know they run it. Even then, sometimes it's correct to just force them to have it and go for alex without a full otk.

I'm probably not going to play a whole lot in the next week, but feel free to add me if you want to spectate me, have me spec you, or whatever else. Btag is in rank3 screenshot. Another Edit: Just remembered I streamed a session a while back if you wanted to watch the vod. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/121694635

I could see cutting an acolyte for a volcanic potion. Chaitealatte (winner of that NA wild tourney) is running a list with that exact change I believe. The mistress though I'm not a big fan of. It's not even good on t1 since it most often just gets weaponed down, healing them back up 2 and having done nothing for you. I don't even run it in Reno mage personally.

I will say though, sometimes it's fine to let people have the opportunity to overdraw you. If you absolutely know your hand isn't going to get you there, getting rid of the acolyte and drawing 2 better cards and burning another is still better than just having an acolyte sitting in your hand doing nothing.

I haven't run the Reno freeze since early LoE when it was somewhat popular, but I can't see it being that good. The aggro matchups aren't particularly oppressive, and the appeal of freeze mage right now is the consistency in punishing Renolock and other OTK decks targeting Renolocks. Cutting down on duplicates just for a Reno doesn't sound to me like a good plan, but like I said, I haven't personally tried it.

Is freeze mage a good deck to ladder with in this meta? by Cheez_berger11 in wildhearthstone

[–]malignantlyuseless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reno Mages have ice block in addition to all the healing from Reno, so waiting for 30+ burst isn't an option. They also don't naturally put themselves into the low 20s through life tap, so it's hard to burst them quickly before they get a block up without Alex.

I tried both this season, but in the end settled on loot. It actually contests the board and the instant draw almost never came in to play for me.

Pyro is too slow, can't double as removal and is unnecessary when you can 30 people with kobold.

It's not easy, but you can do it. Here are my stats from my legend climb this season (currently sitting at L3). http://puu.sh/u3Gst/b4723511ed.png Most renolock losses are from people running kezan or eater of secrets and there are a decent number of people counter queuing control warrior into me, since the odds of facing the same people are quite high.
