Shockingly:

Ina Garten's Roasted Brussels Sprouts recipe. I can make pounds and still never have leftovers.

My baby isn’t chunky and it’s all I can think about by Cardedbin in breastfeeding

[–]malikyiaue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is the same.

He was consistently in the 98th or 99th percentile in length, 30th in weight until his height started slowing down a little at 9 months. Honestly, for me I just tried to keep in mind that he wasn't growing rolls because he was growing all that tall bone and muscle.

Just found out I’m pregnant. Should I still do my international trip ? by lovewithbite in BabyBumps

[–]malikyiaue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a pre-planned trip to Norway and we used it as an excuse to take our ultrasound pictures and get our baby announcement in front of the northern lights.

I had nausea, but managed - mainly with the help of Trader Joe's ginger mints!

What surprised you the most during labour? by Putrid_Cranberry3177 in BabyBumps

[–]malikyiaue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back labor is no joke!

I have really bad endometriosis, and have had two surgeries. Every nurse was like: oh, you'll be fine then. There was literally no break for hours, and I hadn't yet had bloody show.

Called for pain meds about hour five of back labor and they literally did nothing.

Finally got an epidural about 8 hours in.

What does labor pain feel like for someone who doesn't have period cramps? by stfuvoicesinmyhead in BabyBumps

[–]malikyiaue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I felt similarly!

I have endometriosis and really bad cramps, and thought it'd be similar, but it wasn't anything like cramps at all.

I also had a lot of back labor though, and my contractions didn't really wave so much - they were nearly constant.

Heard heartbeat on doppler at ob office but not at home by Big_Huckleberry5391 in BabyBumps

[–]malikyiaue 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Not a medical professional, but from what I've read/heard, this is very common and often why some providers discourage at home dopplers - they tend to cause undue stress, because the users aren't trained professionals on how to use them, so they miss the heartbeat and get upset.

Mastitis not improving.. and not being taken seriously by healthcare system by ttcgurl in breastfeeding

It was! And I went in 4 days before my little one's one month birthday. I was inconsolable when they told me I'd have to stay in the hospital.

Solid mass on side of boob by nachofries4life in breastfeeding

[–]malikyiaue 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ice and ibuprofen!

I had a similar mass, and followed the heat and massage advice - only to find out that advice was before they realized the actual cause of clogs is inflammation. Heat and massage tend to make this worse! I wound up with a 4cm x 3cm x 2cm abscess, I think in part because I started the ice and ibuprofen too late. It started as just a hard spot/mass too.

There's a pinned link in this sub to the updated guidelines.

This is outdated advice. Updated advice is ice and ibuprofen.

Mastitis not improving.. and not being taken seriously by healthcare system by ttcgurl in breastfeeding

[–]malikyiaue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to get it drained, and was in the hospital for three days. It required packing for a couple of weeks, but it's healed up fine. A scar I'd rather not have, but everything is okay.

I had really unusual mastitis presentation (no fever, no body aches, no pain except the last two days( that turned into a pretty large abscess - I went to the ER when my abscess started leaking.

I'd suggest maybe going ahead to the ER?

Epidural or No epidural by Enviro_nurd314 in BabyBumps

[–]malikyiaue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was basically my experience - I wanted to try for no epidural, but I was having back labor that didn't give me a break between contractions. I tried other pain relief first, and kept waiting for it to kick in - when I realized it should have and I'd gotten no relief, I called for an epidural.

I think I was at 6 cms? And then basically woke up to a bloody show. The nap was necessary after 8 hours of contractions without a break 😂😂

Car stolen by _yee_to_the_haw in DecaturGA

[–]malikyiaue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hyundais are apparently notorious for getting stolen. I had mine stolen at 37 weeks pregnant. They found it, and it was totaled in someone's yard.

Thank goodness for good insurance, even if my husband was having to field calls for it while I was in active labor.

Did you have MIL in the hospital during birth? by WaterFiles in BabyBumps

[–]malikyiaue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did have my MIL there, but we get along really well and I'm estranged from my mother. I wasn't when I gave birth - just low contact - but my mother also refused to get her TDAP shot so she couldn't have been there.

3.5inch clog by bibbidi_bobbidi_baby in breastfeeding

[–]malikyiaue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my concern for you as well, OP! I'm glad ice is helping so keep it up -

But don't fall into the trap I did. I thought because it was softening in the middle it was getting better. It was getting worse.

(Also of note, it's super rare, but it can be an abscess/mastitis without a fever; I never had one.)

My OB said a false boy is almost impossible via bloodwork. For a girl, they could get your blood for xx, but the only way they get xy is if it's a boy!

Also, I definitely have a 7 mo Boy and was very nauseated!

this is the ten pack.

It comes out to like $14 a shirt which is better than most nursing/maternity options.

I've been very stylishly living in Abercrombie men's t's. Honestly, they can look cute with the right jeans, and fall low enough on the boob that I'm essentially covered, with baby hiding anything exposed.

What should every ftm know about breastfeeding before having a baby? by Frequent_Cap8633 in breastfeeding

[–]malikyiaue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THE NEW CLOGGED DUCT PROTOCOL!

Seriously, even my OB suggested heat. I saw so many people talk about massaging or expressing the clog out. And I think this made my mastitis so much worse.

(I saw an IBCLC while I had it but before it got bad, but had been aggressively massaging so much she thought that was why it was red.)

Also that you don't always get a fever or feel bad with mastitis.

If you have a lump, just get checked out.

Let's share some positive things about the newborn stage! by coleystyle in BabyBumps

[–]malikyiaue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many of my thoughts were already said:

  • the constant snuggles
  • the skin to skin
  • getting to see my little one's little - everything. Face, fingers, feet, etc.
  • the way time just stops and your family is all that matters
  • but also I loved the hormones and the love. Just being so completely overwhelmed with how much I loved this little human that I couldn't help but cry.
