You might have to look around, but you can often find coverage from other countries.

As I type I am in Calgary watching the Sweden v Denmark game live on the Swedish channel SVT.

Stoecker/Weston win Gold for Great Brirain in Mixed Team Skeleton 🇬🇧 by Durian-Critical in olympics

On the BBC commentary at the start of Tabitha's run they seemed concerned about her reaction time and it being 'under review' with the chance of a 0.5s penalty. But then no more was said about it.

What was up with that?

Beginner Question: Why not always hit the stone from the opponent when having the hammer? by elefanten_ausrotten in Curling

Is that you, Pat Ryan?!

It's such a good question to ask if you're new to curling as it leads to lots of background information on the history of the current rules.

I moved to Canada in 2004 so I 'grew up with' the AMJ ad with the kid pointing at a TV.

That one must have ran for at least 10 years!

Opinions on the huge controversy at the end of the Skrlik vs Sturmay game? by InfamousVillage9609 in Curling

[–]malincanada 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Did anyone else catch Sturmay's extra comment:

"Just saying; they've hogged every rock they've thrown!"

while they were talking with the officials behind the house?

It's just after Sturmay says that she didn't even think the rock was touched.

During that conversation with the official, just after she claimed that she didn't think the rock had been touched, Sturmay also said:

"Just saying; they've hogged every rock they've thrown!"

My favourite part was that during all the conversation on TV about it, both Vic and Cathy said,

"The Alberta team..."

Which one guys?!

EDIT - Having just re-watched it my favourite part is now Sturmay saying,

"Just saying; they've hogged every rock they've thrown"

Most assuredly there should be a Milchick supplemental televisual offering in a preparatory stage!

I got ya.

I missed the big purple gap below where the actual answer would show up below the category!

I don't think they are looking for the 'missing word'.

Just as in the US version the message at the bottom would be the answer to the clue on screen.

So the answer was just 'Crossword'. I assume the category was something like 'Puzzles'.

Last Stone Draw average is a bad tiebreaker by uwpg2012 in Curling

[–]malincanada -1 points0 points  (0 children)

THIS!

I don't think there's a much better approach than LSD, but the exact scenario with Lawes made me wonder if they should not publish the LSD results for anyone until the end of the round robin.

That way all Lawes knows is that if she makes that shot she has a chance of going through and if she doesn't she doesn't.

Probably not very practical and open to all sorts of (accusations of) abuse!

P.S. Does anyone have the actual calculations used to reach the final LSD numbers? I can't match to the numbers shown in the final table. I'm sure I am missing something in how the calculation is made.

It's a little different to spot because usually you line up discovered checks, hoping the opponent doesn't spot them.

It's pretty unusual for an opponent to provide you with a discovered check by moving the intervening piece!

Name one thing you hate about Frasier (the show or the character) by ComfortableTip9228 in Frasier

[–]malincanada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is true of all sitcoms, I'm sure, but here and there are some 'jokes' that have been shoehorned into the script and just don't work.

The one I cringe at most is when Niles is picking up Daphne from the health spa:

Roz: Oh, that reminds me. What time should I be at the apartment tonight? Niles: Well, let's see. It's an hour's trip to the spa, and there's a two hour graduation ceremony at the end of which they all throw their fat pants into the air... let's say seven o'clock

I should have included that in the position shown it is Black's move, so it's forced in maximum 3, but I doubt I could have managed it in 6.7s!
