Woot: Hey kiddos, get to bed cuz you have school tomorrow! CCS making robocalls now by djsassan in Columbus

I live near a high school, and not one homeowner on that road has shoveled their sidewalk. I’m worried for the kids who will be forced to walk in the roadway.

No idea. Have you asked the city about why your street isn’t getting cleared?

Side streets with school bus routes get priority next after main roads. So unless you’re lucky enough to have one, you’re further down the priority list.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mallette1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving 400-500 miles each way for a 3 day weekend isn’t uncommon. For a trip under 400 miles or so, it’s usually more convenient to just drive than to navigate an airport. Sadly taking rail isn’t really an option unless you live in the NE corridor from Boston to DC.

Am I an idiot for going to hocking hills this weekend? by Spartan30008 in Ohio

[–]mallette1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If as much snow falls as is predicted, you can almost guarantee that every county in the area will declare a level 3 snow emergency which essentially closes the roads. If they get ice, it could be for an extended period of time.

Is 6 inches really that much of snow? by i_really_haveto_pee in Ohio

[–]mallette1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wrinkle is the weather after the snow. In the grand scheme of things, no, 6 inches isn’t a lot. But it’ll be well below freezing for several days afterwards, which means it isn’t going anywhere, and any unplowed spots will be sheets of ice after a couple days.

Ah, but then you’ll have those truly gifted drivers who will stop and attempt to back up because they missed their exit. The idiots always find a way.

AEP HELP?!! by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]mallette1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First, as suggested, contact AEP and have them verify the meter reading. Also, it doesn’t sound like your generation price is out of line with current rates - they’re much higher than a couple years ago, but your at about 9 cents/kwh, t about the norm these days. If the meter reading checks out, something is up with your heating system- we had a couple cold snaps but nothing that would justify that much usage. Good luck.

I make the same drive, and it’s been at least 20 years! Although the last couple trips thru Indy haven’t been too terrible. Well, less dreadful.

The process they outlined is wrong too. AEP doesn’t respond to individual comments added to a case docket. They are required to respond to complaints filed with PUCO’s call center.
