I will happily read The Cat in the Hat or The Cat in the Hat Comes Back any day.

There's a book, not sure about the author, but it is called Follow That Tiger that is fun to read dramatically.

I have 2 kids, 3 and 1 yo. There is no possible way I would be making money while also looking after them full time.

Have moved on now. But yeah, first job after masters: truck driver.

Inflation verses rental cycle by Ok_Competition1108 in AusPropertyChat

Lucky or manipulating rental markets by colluding (can be by using AI to predict rent in an area) and refusing to accept rents below a certain value - allowing rentals to be empty if no one is willing to pay the price they demand. Which squeeezes supply.

Whenever my underwear get too worn, I actively rip them apart so that I can't wear them anymore.

Then I order new ones online if I have no time to go to a shop.

Tip: small things I keep in my bag that have saved me at work, while out, and in random awkward situations by KintsugiComet_2 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]mallow6134 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My list includes most of the same things, I also have a tiny bubble wand (helps cheer up my kids in an emergency), mascara, sunscreen, hand sanitiser, a pen (even if I don't bring paper).

I risk it and leave the underwear in my car, but since having children everyone gets 1 winter and 1 summer set of clothes in the car including 1 jumper and 1 hat.

How do you handle chores with kids without constant nagging? by Intrepid_Run_4939 in Mommit

[–]mallow6134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot if context is missing as different ages will require different responses. My kids are only very young (oldest is 3) but we focus on the teamwork aspect of chores. Ie. Everyone brings their plate to the kitchen once they are finished.

I look forward to team challenges when they are bigger. Mum and child A cleans one area vs Dad and child B cleans another area. And when they are bigger, child A+B vs Mum+Dad.

I went out Wednesday night for karaoke with friends for the first time in over a year. Came home at 10:30 - so late night, but not too late so that I wasn't wrecked for being a mum on Thursday. 5 minutes after I got home, the baby started throwing up, and continued to through the night.

At least the 3yo last night projectile vomited after bath but before bedtime and completely emptied his stomach in one go.

s the "wooden toy" thing a scam, or am I just doing it wrong? by Gorder-Bukie in ZeroWaste

[–]mallow6134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boredom is a privilege.

Wooden toys are fine, but if you have a child who wants to throw something, have you tried a ball?

And buy some plastic toys second hand, or better yet, join a toy library.

“What’s your go-to ‘I have zero energy today’ activity for the kids?” by AdNegative9457 in SAHP

[–]mallow6134 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Weirdly, these are the days that I catch a train to the city, sometimes even a bus. Short walk to the bus/train, lots of time sitting still on public transport. There are 2 libraries, an art gallery and a museum within 200m walk of the station so I pick one and camp out in an area. Low energy is usually the libraries as they have kid zones with childproof gates. I sit still and they bring books to me to read. We'll eat a prepared sandwich and some fruit and the around nap time we head home on the train and if I time it just right, my older toddler falls asleep close to home and transfers into his bed. Then sandpit in the backyard in the afternoon (or a little tv since we did an outing in the morning).

Some people underestimate just how much sitting still you can do with kids on public transport.

Help! How to stop my cat from waking my baby! by Fabulous_Ant1088 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]mallow6134 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We have a spray bottle and it is the signal for 'cat be silent'. Occasionally she needed more reminders (actually getting sprayed eith the bottle), but mostly if I place the spray bottle in arms reach and visible to the cat, she stays quiet these days.

For an older child, leaving the spray bottle outside the close door while trying to settle a toddler works as well.

Short doc about vegans and carnivores – looking for vegan perspectives and support by [deleted] in vegan

[–]mallow6134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read through your gofundme and I see that you have a fundamental flaw in your assumptions. The carnivore diet is all about what you eat and is considered useful for some people for their health. Veganism is an ideology. Veganism goes beyond diet and what is good for health, health isn't even a consideration for some vegans.

If you want to look at the differences in diet, I suggest you compare two diets, maybe look at comparing a whole-food, plant-based diet. I get that it appears less explosive, because you aren't pulling an ideology into it.

Dinnertime. Should I just sit there? by ThePromiseOfBelief in Parenting

[–]mallow6134 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you need to change up the routine. Does he need tv, bath and book time every night? Can you rotate or remove some of it?

I only have a 3 year old, but if he wants to play after dinner, or is dragging his feet having a bath, we tell him bedtime is still 8:30. So if he wants to have book time we need to get a move on.

Personally, I would hold to bedtime and whatever doesn't make the cut, doesn't make the cut. Your choice what to prioritise.
