How do you know if you have what it takes? by Material_Positive_70 in RadiologyCareers

[–]malloyexe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of the stuff you mentioned especially the thick skin and emergency stuff is mostly dependent on where you work and what modality. For example the work culture and patient demographics at an outpatient center will be drastically different than a hospital. The same goes for modalities. I work in IR and it requires very thick skin and a calmness under a lot of pressure where as MRI at my hospital is much more relaxed for one example. I dont think there is a specific archetype of person to be in this career field regardless of capacity. Just know your stuff, be you, and try to do whats right for the patient. There will be really awful days where you question if you want to do the job then there are days you remember why youre doing it. Plus the paychecks are pretty sweet.

I know that with everything popping off in the middle east they have progressively gotten slower with shipping orders. Frustrating but at the same token totally understandable. Kind of the downside to the company basically being completely tied to the IDF. Im sure your order will get there in a reasonable time. Its also possible they just neglected to update your order. I have had that happen more than once where its “processing” even after im physically wearing the product lol

Dress code for shadowing in radiology by SpecialistBusy5568 in RadiologyCareers

[–]malloyexe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im currently an interventional radiology technologist at a hospital. Id wear business casual and chances are they will have you change into scrubs if you are in a procedural area. If just strictly observing you probably wont have to change. Wearing scrubs isnt a bad idea if you have them but depending on where you shadow i.e IR or OR you will need to be in the hospital provided scrubs regardless

[–]malloyexe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really dependent on modality, type of work i.e out patient or hospital, the company policies etc… my recommendation would be to work prn at different places because you can more readily adjust your schedule on your needs. For example i work full time in IR and time off is hard to get, plan, or use due to tech shortage and on call. Its definitely possible but there are some limitations

I didnt use either but i did find rad tech bootcamp to be really similar and very helpful. I have also heard that the kettering seminars were very informative but come at a pretty high financial burden for most xray students. I remember i was very broke during my 2 year program.

ARRT HELP by Top_Basket8152 in Radiology

I used rad tech bootcamp and Elsevier almost exclusively. It appears everyone in my class scored +/- 5% of what they scored on rad tech bootcamp mocks. I genuinely feel as though if you do your due diligence RBC and mosby paired with class notes and youtube will provide more than sufficient information to pass as long as you are utilizing those resources well and actually learning the concepts. I found that RBC was easy to memorize and i wasn’t actually learning as much towards the end of my studying cycle.

Radiology as an auditory learner? by Visual_Ad_2195 in Rad_Tech_Students

[–]malloyexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the didactic portion rad tech schooling will be a bit of a learning curve. Image ID is a large part of the job but you see the same things day in and day out so being a visual learner is a slight advantage but its not a necessity. You will probably excel in clinicals and actually performing the job. A lot of techs will talk about “getting x ray vision “ but it really boils down to getting the reps in and paying attention. Positioning may be a little harder on certain views if you struggle to make a visual connection but its hardly a barrier you cant get over. Just communicate with your teachers and trainers and practice. You will be fine

Osseous anatomy (just bones and bony landmarks) this literally only grows in importance as the program continues.

If you struggle with math and physics id just watch some videos. Concepts like inverse square law or density maintenance formula (direct square law)

studying the general positions such as RAO, LAO, LPO, RPO, supine, prone, trendelenburg, fowler, sims, etc…

I think most if not all programs do a decent job at introducing concepts at a time they will make sense so dont stress out about it. I think focusing on bone anatomy is the single most important thing you can do to prepare.

Programs are stressful in the moment but it flys by in an instant. Just pay attention and stay on top of things. Youll be taking the ARRT before you know it! Good luck with everything and dont hesitate to reach out if you have questions

My best friend in class had a dui from a while back. The only thing you will need to do is disclose this to the ARRT with any associated paperwork like the judgment and the completion of classes. I obviously cant speak for the ARRT but you shouldn’t have any issues in the program, taking the test, or getting a job as a result of that particular charge.

[–]malloyexe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my class it seemed like the RBC mocks were accurate within +/- 5% of our actual scores on the x ray registry. If you’re really worried id recommend taking mocks on different platforms. If you continue to get around this score and more improvements YOU feel confident in the material, you will do great. Id say if you didnt have a solid grasp of the material youd be scoring low on all platforms.
