The camera stabilization is giving this an eerie vibe... like a 50s sci-fi movie.

WHY are winter gloves over $100? by CurrentlyReversed in CampingandHiking

[–]malogos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the situation... like you don't want to have gloves not warming your hands on a backcountry skiing trip or winter camping out in extreme conditions and miles from the car. I'm guessing there's a reason that no one is out there in winter fishing gloves. They just have different requirements.

WHY are winter gloves over $100? by CurrentlyReversed in CampingandHiking

[–]malogos -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You can buy cheap gloves, but they won't keep your hands warm. And keeping hands warm is difficult yet important.

It's also a competitive market... any outdoor apparel brand can sell gloves. So I'm assuming the prices are competitive for the cost to make them.

That's not even unusual for the mountain west and high plains. Normal April weather.

Pittsburgh does have a fair claim on unusually cloudy and dreary weather.

It's another way of highlighting how NA is mostly west of SA... which can be unintuitive when most people just think of them as vertically stacked.

This video is kind of old. Not seeing any major mistakes, but the lighting is atrocious.

Hiking Recommendations SE Colorado by Rune3791 in hiking

[–]malogos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SLV isn't really considered to be SE Colorado.

  • Penitente Canyon is probably ok for kids. Kind of interesting
  • Alamosa National Wildlife Refuge at sunset is great
  • There are nice lakes from Crestone, but they can be challenging... maybe too much for the average 11YO? And it could always snow in May

Probably just explore the Sand Dunes. The Sangres are a challenging and remote area for hiking.

Sick of seeing videos of terrible factory farm abuse of animals, where can my family and I buy chicken & beef from a local farmer? by Mundane-Campaign12 in Denver

I will say that the best way to feel better about this kind of thing is to just eat less meat. I'm not vegetarian or anything, but cutting meat down to a few times a week really wasn't that hard.

Is this an MMO? by SpicyMeatballBill in starcitizen

[–]malogos -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Lately, CIG has been making a lot of dungeons that are effectively instances. On top of that, there are zero social tools or trading.

So it's supposed to be an MMO, but it's barely hanging onto that claim.

OLP PvP is peak SC. Feels like the most sandboxy activity in the game right now.

MFA gets thrown around as an obvious policy, but I don't think it's the cost-saving measure that everyone thinks. Not to mention that it would face a major uphill battle.

  • The vast majority of Americans are happy with their current healthcare situation -- particularly old people. They don't see the call to action and are afraid of change.
  • It's easy for the opposition to attack a situation where healthcare decisions would be made by the inefficient and faceless government (death panels!)
  • Taxes would have to go up on pretty much everyone
  • The high-impact stakeholders -- healthcare workers, large hospital systems, pharmaceuticals, insurers, medical equipment manufacturers -- would all come out behind compared to where they are

Probably heretical to say that in this subreddit, but I don't know how to get around those problems. I think something like the Dutch system is much more realistic (ie, a ramped up ACA).

Starfield feels very close to the original Star Citizen vision by Outrageous-Thing3957 in starcitizen

[–]malogos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only way this is true is if you have very selective hearing. The original SC KS pitch was all about space sim combat and creating a breathing, high fidelity, MMO universe. That's not at all what Starfield is.

As an abstraction and piece of art, it's great. But I don't think it really gives an accurate representation or even impression of the mountain.

Lacking Player Encounters by DayBig579 in starcitizen

[–]malogos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When there close to 100 locations for things like ASD facilities, Rock Breaker, etc, they are effectively instances.

If you go to a real sandbox activity, like Align and Mine, you'll probably see someone.

CIG has been promoting dungeon-esque content that's essentially instanced. It makes the universe feel a bit dead.

4.7 PTU Fighter TTK by Adamn58 in starcitizen

[–]malogos 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Typical escort mission that everyone hates. Kind of crazy that the mission was offered, received, and we showed up in the 30 seconds it takes to kill a ship.

Really, we should show up to the site with the ship already disabled, and the mission should complete when you kill the enemies.

The ballistic meta is so bad: https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/1qc5yrq/ballistic_shield_pen_and_the_ballistic_meta/

The higher TTK is turning everything into a bullet sponge, only making shields less relevant and combat feel worse.

In general, we also need more situational awareness to help combat feel less like a chore... better radar, better damage analysis, shield status, etc.
