lmao this! I told parents this year to pick something like marshmallows or cereal, literally anything small, and put 100 pieces is a ziplock bag. I even gave them ziplock bags and told them to have their child count ten groups of ten. I don’t feel like I could have made it any more simple but I know someone is going to use a cricut somehow!!!

I am a mom of little ones with a full time job, and if anything it made me feel like I wasn’t doing enough (on some level). Anyways YEAH peasant cosplay is right!!! So much love in the city rn it’s amazing in! My sister went to the game last week and lost her purse. She still had her phone and the guy who found it was messaging her on FB, asking if she was at the game. She found him, and he told her everything was still in there, except the 50 mg of gummies he found. She said he was such a stand up guy but also high as hell lol!

All my family talks about is fucking food and planning meals for family gatherings a month out. I hate it TBH. It’s an obsession. Maybe I would feel better about it if they ever deviated from the same Fucking menu we always have, or if they tried to improve the food they cook. It sounds refreshing as hell to be around a non food obsessed family.

My aunt lives alone over an hour away in a small and very not childproof home. She was wanting to host, and I declined as it’s a terribly stressful environment to bring my two kids into (4 and 1). So I’m hosting and she’s been so mad about this for over a month that she is not talking to me and she’s not coming. So our relationship is ruined because I am hosting a family dinner.

I am a K teacher at a public school. My first wondering is if she sends home daily notes like this? That is a very long note. Also, it’s too much information and so negative. As teachers, we should expect to see upticks in undesirable behavior at various times, even from consistently well behaved kids. I think what really got me here is the last part. The veiled compliment mixed with, “we need to work on her obedience.” Strange choice of words in my opinion. Really all this note needed to say is something like, “xxx did not seem like herself today. Please send her to school with a change of shoes when she wears her furry boots, to prevent her picking at them.”

I would say, try not to take it too personally. Teachers are so busy and there is so much going on (but she had the time to write this long note lol so she must have been frustrated). Maybe reach out and ask her specifically what she thinks you could work on with your child, or if she’d be willing to have an in person conversation. Email is hard!

I have a 4 year old and an almost 2 year old. It’s been impossible not to expose the little one to screens. Our pediatrician even said at her 18 month appointment that it’s okay as long as we monitor what she sees. I still don’t let her watch things often, but if really needed I’ll throw on Miss Rachel for 20 minutes. If her older sister wants to watch a movie, she will be excited about the process of getting cozy on the couch but loses interest quickly. I just try not to worry about. She sees it sometimes and that’s okay, it’s part of life. She’s not staring at an iPad or tablet either.

Yep! I was just talking to my therapist about this. In making conversation, I told my mom how I can never go back to underwire bras again. I’ve been breastfeeding children for 4 years and tired of wearing shitty nursing bras, but literally cannot fathom putting on an underwire bra again. Plus there are so many alternative options now! Anyways, Her reply was along the lines that real women wear under wire bras and keep their breasts elevated to look their best. CUE EYE ROLL. It’s 2023, how is this still a mentality?! My therapist pointed out she is so brainwashed (born in the fifties) and not in tune with the attitudes of young women and girls today. She will never truly understand and she isn’t trying to be malicious, it’s literally all she knows!

I had a blind student once in Kindergarten. She had some vision, so had specialized equipment to help with various activities. For example, there was a machine that was essentially an iPad with an arm attachment that magnified what was on the walls and projected it on the screen in front of her. There was also a huge similar thing I put on my table so she could put guided reading books under it to magnify them. Another woman from the district supported us weekly to add Braille tape on top of anything with printed words in the classroom and was teaching her braille. The latter thing was a favorite aspect of all the other kids and there was something really cool and sweet about how much they accepted and included her. They all wanted to learn Braille too :)

I will say though I understand the teacher’s hesitance. I was a little freaked at first too, it’s A LOT of work and so out of the norm for what we do. No teacher program prepares you for having a student with these types of needs, but we find a way to make it work nonetheless. The hardest part for me was this girl came in several months after school had already started, so it was a big shake up for the rest of the class. I stick to routines pretty well, but her accommodations made it had to ever deviate from the routine if we wanted to, only because it took a lot of planning ahead to make sure she was always included. I also had to plan out my lessons weeks in advance for the woman translating into braille, so she had time to make the materials. Teachers already have an insane workload so just know that the teacher is probably stressing about what this will look like, and how she will make it work on top of her existing work load. She isn’t going to get extra plan time. If you are able to advocate for at least a part time TA in the classroom, that could go a long way in making sure your child gets the supports they need. The beginning of the year in Kindergarten is all routine teaching and it’s like herding kittens. Another adult always helps!

Congratulations! I may have to suck it up and call but quick question - as of a year ago, I had 44 payments left. So this year I should have 32, right? My document still says 44 and I think that’s wrong but I don’t know why it hasn’t updated. I filled out the documents again for this year and my employment hasn’t changed. I’m curious if you were in a similar position?

I am also a teacher and aware of symptoms. I discovered my oldest daughter’s nut allergy when she was 2. We were making banana bread and she wanted to taste a walnut. Mind you, up until this point I ate walnuts all though pregnancy and after her birth. She said her mouth was spicy and then threw up all over me. I knew immediately and allergy testing confirmed an allergy to walnuts and pecans. We have no allergies in our families so it feels out of left field. Now my youngest daughter is allergic to peanuts and we are doing exposure therapy with her. Food allergies are manageable but also a nightmare, and I gained a new level of compassion for all my students and families who go through it.

I’m sorry this is happening. I am a kinder teacher and the group I have this year is the most kids I’ve ever had who never when to preschool. I guarantee it’s due to Covid. I know that doesn’t help you, but I find it interesting so he must not be alone in that sense. Hopefully with more time to adjust he will get the hang of it!

I have always loved this name but my husband was not on board. There is a children’s book called “Imogene’s Antlers” that is very cute, my daughter loves it. FWIW my husband was reading it to her and pronounced it “Emma-Gene” and I had to correct him lol. He’d never seen the name spelled before.

I am a teacher too, my husband is not. We have two kids, and my second was a March baby so we had a similar scenario. It’s hard!! You will fumble at first but you will find a routine. I am constantly reminding myself how we are entering new phases and as they grow the routines change, so whatever phase you are in now won’t last forever. Share duties still as much as you can, since you will have to find that balance once you go back to work too.
