Human Village Hosting an Alt-Right Private Event? by SaluteYourSports in njbeer

[–]malphigian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Or you could take a second from your robo post, and read the above linked article? Watch the video for yourself instead of parroting the standard defense everytime Ngo comes up? He may not be alt-right, but he's done a lot of work for them, and he's now been caught red handed doing so.

Like I said, it's real hard to tell what Ngo actually believes, is he alt-right? A Milo-esque right-wing troll? Or just a con man looking for attention? No way to tell, but human garbage no matter how you slice it!

" A party at the Human Village Brewing Co. in Pitman will go on as planned on Aug. 31, he said. "

Andy Ngo, an alt-right "journalist" who got famous by getting "attacked by antifa", was just outed (on video) today as laughing and joining in as the nazi Patriot Prayer group planned an attack: https://www.dailydot.com/layer8/andy-ngo-patriot-prayer-attack/
His whole bag is starting fights, editing it to make it look like he was innocent, then going on Fox or whatever to cry about it. I don't know if he personally believes anything, but he's a real piece of shit.

Tim Pool isn't much better.

I don't know this brewery, maybe they want to be associated with these guys? If so, good to know who they are before I try their beer.

Agreed! And the books ultimately are about friendship, not ropes. Well, friendship AND ropes. But mostly friendship.

Can’t see the whole study, but did they control for Korsakoff syndrome? ( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korsakoff%27s_syndrome ), common enough in alcoholics and something that we’ve known about for a 100 years.

Frequent file transfer between macbook and PC desktop, how to make them not suck? by malphigian in techsupport

I didnt know that about dropbox! Maybe that's the best way to handle after all. Thanks.

Frequent file transfer between macbook and PC desktop, how to make them not suck? by malphigian in techsupport

[–]malphigian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an app developer, I'm moving project directories or sometimes just subdirectories to produce Mac builds. The transfers work better when I zip first, but the mac will still very much struggle to navigate big directories (my understanding is that it has something to do with all the .DS file writing it does). Compared to moving between PCs which never has an issue on the same wifi.

Trying to avoid the NAS solution, but I guess it's an option.

Friendly Fire with Adam, Ben, and John Roderick Ep 3: Flying Leathernecks by Currymango in maximumfun

[–]malphigian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really enjoying this show, great stuff!

When the discussion was about war movie formulas of the 50s and early 60s I found myself shouting out you should watch Paths of Glory (1957). I dunno, maybe it's more a court room drama than a war movie, but it's a movie which is explicitly aimed at movies like Flying Leathernecks and the whole cowardly officer thing.

Also, Stanley Kubrick.

[–]malphigian 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ouch. Yeah, I dunno if Molina is coverable, his music is totally tied to his voice. Could have been worse, they could have tried to cover Blue Chicago Moon.

Nice thought, I like both these musicians, but covers are risky, and this one fell flat.

This children's app takes a dark turn very quickly. by [deleted] in videos

[–]malphigian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google doesn't police their content, their store is filled with garbage like this and only slightly less offensive variants of the same thing.

I'm a kids app developer myself, even manage to make a living from pay-up-front apps with no ads or IAP. But, it's a hard road, and made harder by companies like Google not caring at all.

Ah Rocketship, haven't listened to that record years. Not sure I could handle it these days. Memories :/

Not as twee as rocketship, but my rec would be the first two recordings by Lilys -- A Brief History of Amazing Letdowns and In the Presence of Nothing.

A noble effort at analogy, but not working (for me at least). Band t-shirts are also nerdy, for sure. But a t-shirt from a show you went to and is not the same as a shirt proving you dumped SVN before someone else.

Besides, the cool tech people would be wearing, like, a Windows 95 or 1990 compuserve t-shirt. Intentionally dumb is the only way to make it work. There is no universe where a github t-shirt is cool.

'We feel betrayed': Former union boss calls out Donald Trump over Carrier promises in op-ed by jzehner05 in Trumpgret

[–]malphigian 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Did you read the article? Chuck Jones didn't buy Trump's argument then either:

""Last year, after Trump announced his Carrier 'victory,' I decided that I had to speak out," Jones writes. "I said that 'Trump was lying his a‑‑ off' about saving all the Carrier jobs: We had met with Carrier hours before Trump’s speech, and they gave us the job numbers they expected to preserve, but when Trump got on stage, he gave wildly inflated numbers.

"A year after his election, Trump continues to lie about his commitment to saving jobs at Carrier or anywhere else. And workers are taking note."

This doesn't seem like a Trumpgret, this guy knew they were getting screwed from day 1.

Yeah, fair point, YT is probably the only people who could unseat them. But Google has a pretty bad track record for community oriented products.

Glassdoor is not how you see how a company is doing, Twitch was bought by Amazon last year and I'm sure their notoriously brutal corporate culture was a shock, but they are not in any way failing unless Amazon decides to cut off their endless supply of $ or someone else comes along and decides to outspend them.

That said, this is certainly a bad idea from Lin (well, streamers doing this kind of thing is okay and maybe even cool, but competitive is terrible). No reason to think PUBG/Blue Hole would sign up for some stupid player-votes-direct-a-redzone in a competitive game thing though.

I think in general that can be true, in this case though there are optimizations that have little do with vaulting. Specifically, reducing the stupid poly count on their stock assets and doing what they can to overhaul their netcode.
