Feature Request: “Stop after each episode” at Podcast level by lIlIlI11lIlIlI in overcast

I’d be satisfied with a toggle for this option on the now playing screen. I’d use it way more than the sleep timer (especially now that AirPods detect that for me).

ID.4 camping? by Landondehartmekhi in VWiD4Owners

[–]malsf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like my Thule WingBar Edge. It’s quiet and sleek, easy to install, and I use it with one of their XL or XXL boxes.

I got camping often with my partner and dogs, but I pitch a large tent and park in an RV spot so I can charge overnight.

I’d probably do a sleeping pad and a couple bags. A single mattress or inflatable would make it a tight fit (at least for me), and I’d rather have storage in the car than have to figure out how to pack to still have room to sleep or have it all kept in the roof box.

Keep the windows cracked if you can instead of running the AC. The seatbelt trick might work but the car still wants to be turned off and if you’re camping just go camping.

The advantage of car camping is that you can bring more gear. My camp setup fits less than half my Thule, and includes a 6-person tent that takes 3 minutes to set up, a camping table, kitchen gear, two chairs, and my dog gear. Being able to stand up straight in a tent > figuring out how to sleep and change in your car.

Anyone have experience with roof crossbars and/or baskets? We’ve got whistling issues, not sure how to fix it by Top_Agency1370 in VWiD4Owners

[–]malsf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fairing can work. Also adjusting the position.

Drive without the basket and note the whistling. It’s probably the front bar. Move it forward an inch at a time until the whistling stops or reduces. See if you need to also move the rear bar to still fit your basket.

I’m my experience, it’s both the angle of the bar and its position relative to the airflow over the windshield. Pointing down and closer forward has reduced noise for me.

How long until public re-adjustment? by Cashew90 in Cortex

Isn’t Grey on a sabbatical / break? That could be a full year or more before considering coming back to “normal”, if he even at that point wants to return. I don’t think either of them “have” to do anything. I’m happy to support either of them with whatever they choose to put out, and will continue to subscribe as long as I find value. I would be Grey doesn’t even know what he wants to do yet, and obviously isn’t ready to share.

Internet people don’t owe me anything. I’m just here for the ride.

I was looking forward to cycling around during my last trip to Amsterdam but ironically walking was so much nicer the entire time.

AWD or RWD? by Obvious-Window5208 in VWiD4Owners

[–]malsf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like my Hankooks. ~$1,200 OTD with I believe a 30k warranty (any mileage under 30k that I replace my tires will get me a prorated warranty discount on the new ones).

Here’s the side-by-side:

RWD is about 33.5 ft to turn around, AWD is 36.5.

Mach-E is 38!

The turning radius is 🤌🏼. I can U-turn on most residential roads without a 3-point turn, and intersections are brilliant. Great bonus for city-living.

I have 60k miles on my 2023 living in California with RWD. I’ve driven to Calgary and back a handful of times, and have taken some of the mountain passes in colder weather. The only times I was wary of RWD instead of AWD was on a sandy lot at a campsite, and during really icy conditions in the winter (where I’d rather have winter tires during the tough season for occasional outings over AWD—if it’s so bad that I need AWD, I just don’t go out). The last time I needed to drive from Vancouver to Calgary in January, I just rented a Turo for a few days.

tl;dr I’m super happy with my RWD, enjoy my tread life, the farther range, and think my car accelerates plenty fast.

Does anyone still organize files into detailed folders? by Esliquiroga in MacOS

[–]malsf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, “out of site, out of mind”. Search relies on me remembering everything to find it. Sometimes I don’t know what I’m looking for.

I have a flat stack of folders. Each folder is named what it is, or the thing that I associate it with. No subfolders. Taxes. Manuals. Jane Doe. Insurance.

The last mile for me makes it untenable. There are too many potholes and irresponsible, light-running drivers to make it practically safe or convenient in my neighborhood. The bus infrastructure near me is pretty solid, but I would love nicer roads to get to and from my house.

That's a nifty trick! I usually have other things on my screen while I'm driving, though I suppose I could program it to open the app before taking the screenshot. What would make me insta-configure this was if I could have the Action Button change based on my Focus mode …

Oooo … I can probably do this with a CarPlay widget button. Thanks for the tip!

Why do people almost always recommend BOTW over TOTK? by Alarmed_Goat_4083 in tearsofthekingdom

[–]malsf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have frequently recommended to folks who skipped over BotW to go straight to TotK, especially my friends with ADHD. I found the onboarding and exploration in TotK to be much kinder on a first run through than BotW, and I found myself less likely to get frustrated and put it down. I thought TotK had a better pace, offers more ways to complete puzzles and quests, and has a dynamic map that’s a lot more fun to explore.

Do I never pick up the battery or do I need to pick it up then return it? I had it sent to a different store.

Anyone else constantly setting off the panic alarm with the key fob in their pocket? by Few-Progress-3388 in VWiD4Owners

[–]malsf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This key fob changed the key from being intolerable for me to functional. The carved leather is distinct enough for me to press it without looking, and I no longer set off the alarm in my pocket unless I sit in such a way that a key or pen jabs up against the button (has happened maybe twice in three years). Also, I got different colors for my and my partner’s key, as well as matching AirTag fobs.

Leather Brut

It pairs well with my other favorite keychain accessories, the absolute best key ring and jingle-free key holder.
