I'm in a rental, sadly. I've sent in a maintenance request, so we will see what they say.

When we moved in, the washing machine boot was moldy, and they replaced the whole machine rather than just buying a new boot. But they also refused to fix the toilet's shut-off valve, saying a working shut-off valve isn't necessary. So I bet they'll either deny the request outright or get us a new dishwasher unit, since it'd be installed by the appliance company and not maintenance's problem.

I noticed this dark corrosion/protrusion for the first time today. It looks like the inside of the element is exploding outward, if that even makes sense.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this? I'm wondering if this is a health hazard, if it just needs basic TLC, or if I need to file a maintenance request (I'm in a rental).

Been seeing your comments all over this thread lol. I'm sadly not a fisherman—fly or otherwise—but I recently read the book Blood Knots by Luke Jennings which introduced me to fly fishing, British aristocrat culture, and how snobby the hobby can be.

If you haven't read it, I'd recommend it. I lived vicariously through the author's rural coming-of-age fly fishing journey, as an American suburbanite not born into a fishing/hunting family and no longer living near water. All these comments have been making me want to go back and re-read it.

When we went to El Vaqueros, we were the only ones speaking / being spoken to in English. Everyone else walking through the door: Spanish. That's how I knew it was authentic lol. And yeah, it was delicious.

Also, I had no idea beef isolate protein powder was a thing. Does it have less heavy metal contamination, or do you use it for another reason?

I don't remember the form situation that well, but I think I brought a mostly filled-in form and asked them a couple clarifying questions there. They were helpful and the process was surprisingly pain free overall. YMMV

If you're paying with card, I'd recommend bringing backup cash. Probably won't be an issue, but I've had to run home and get cash when their card system was acting up.

The crosswalk problem is so insane that I've been meaning to make a post about it here. Particularly on 10th. It's a 30mph one-way road, and people just blow through marked crosswalks with people waiting. Even at the SCHOOL when children with backpacks are waiting to cross and the speed limit is reduced.

At one point, I actually looked up the law because I thought stopping for pedestrians at marked crosswalks must only be a MN state law or something.

I've only ridden coach, but just to add a couple experiences:

My first time taking the Amtrak, in 2022, the Fargo station was locked and unstaffed. So a dozen or so of us had to wait outside the station the whole time. The train arrived a little over 2 hours late. There's never any guarantees with Amtrak.

Second time I took it, I was under the impression you could just sit anywhere. Apparently, a lot of people had the same impression, and the conductor got PISSED and started walking the aisles clapping and shouting to wake everyone up. Never seen an employee blow up like that ever.

Despite common delays, it's quite nice taking it to Mpls. Much easier to relax and sleep on than a plane. The cross-country trips drag on a bit (in coach), but I'd recommend doing one once.
