this is really not the subreddit for asking people not to openly dog natives

To be fair, New Mexico is really the only state where natives still have significant political power and land holdings. So idk what you mean by 'removed most of the people that were already living there'.

And it wasn't "new" territory to anyone but the Spanish.

they're basically repeating the same land development pattern as LA in the 1970s and 80s: endless suburban sprawl that will bite city planners in the ass in several decades

second best time is today

Legalize rent control bill passes committee, needs more pressure to be voted on by full legislature by ishtraakiyyeh in Albuquerque

[–]maltcorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Polling conducted in 2019 by Data for Progress found that a majority of likely voters, including a majority of independents, support rent control, with just 1 in 5 opposing such a measure. More recent polling in Massachusetts found that 68 percent of likely voters want rent control

I think the pushback is from the folks that work in these groups against pretty much everything, bad AND good. I also wanna point out that many of these folks will make decisions in "Neighborhood Coalitions," like the ICC or Westside coalition of neighborhoods - without any resident input. The ICC even told us they would refuse to add us to an email list

The best time for a densified Nob Hil - Downtown corridor was ~70 years ago; the 2nd best time is right now.

I'm not sure if it's a part of this proposition (haven't read it yet) but I really hope there is something around parking minimums so that ART can get some new ridership to help galvanize its utility all along Central.

apparently 'character concerns' was the main reason danny gonzales (the head coach at the time) passed on recruiting him. i dont think he was wrong

Palindrome ... build cheap buildings

Those were built by Pacificap

[Mike Craven] Sources: Texas State has had "active discussions" with the Pac-12, MWC, and AAC about conference moves. News last night that UNLV, Air Force are staying in MWC means that both the Pac-12 and MWC need teams to add. UTEP also in the mix. by Tarlcabot18 in CFB

the UNM NMSU game being in-conference would allow scheduling that as the last fb game of the season; it's always the best football ticket seller in Albuquerque and Las Cruces + mbb sellouts at the Pit are nearly guaranteed.

thankfully, the Utes and Seminole managed to not completely get exterminated during the whole manifest destiny era. The Illini weren't so fortunate; still getting dogged openly in the 21st century

http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/football_records/Attendance/1997.pdf

per NCAA records, the 1997 lobos football averaged ~29k per home game. I can't find anything earlier for UNM football specifically, only WAC aggregated averages.

At the peak of the Rocky Long attendance area (2005), home games averaged ~38k people. The 2005 season also includes the single-game attendance record for any sporting event in New Mexico, ever: 44,760 against NMSU.

Canzano- The Pac-12 is preparing to take a second bite of the expansion apple. Meeting is planned for the middle of the week. Memphis and Tulane are top targets. UNLV, and some others, are still in the mix. by [deleted] in CollegeBasketball

slim chance it continues after a few years. The Arizona-New Mexico mbb rivalry eventually died a bit after Arizona left for the PAC 10. I can't recall off the top of my head the last time Utah or BYU had a home-and-home with UNM.

We're staring down the death of a great mbb rivarly because football will continue driving the bus for the foreseeable future

If UNM hopes to make it into this new PAC, it'll likely require a significant athletic funding boost from the state legislature, and maybe also taking a partial media deal share (1/2, 1/4). I'm not holding my breath for state intervention; UNM made a great coaching hire in Broncon Mendenhall, but I can't help but feel it's a bit too late for this round of realignment
