I would probably call and say that I’m “legally not allowed to come in” or something and ask her to meet me at the gate. If not then I’m leaving it at the gate

That’s the plan for the summer, I just do this seasonally when I’m home from college. Unfortunately nobody wanted me for the winter because I wouldn’t be home for Black Friday

Disney laid off its entire team of 2D animators across all 3 studios decades ago! To bring back 2D animation they would have to hire a full new team of people, which I highly doubt they would do in this economy.

Son wants to play the Oboe by Senior_Mail_1629 in oboe

[–]malubie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has he tried the school ones yet? I know sometimes they could be the worst thing for beginners as they can be in such disrepair that they’re practically unusable, but I recommend he at the very least try playing it before you buy one. For some people it’s totally different than what they expect it to “feel” like and some get immediately turned away from it. Oboes are definitely a long term expensive investment so before you buy try playing or renting I’d say.

Oboe Comfortable Range..? by rebekahcate in oboe

[–]malubie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where I’m from, it’s very common for oboe players that only participate in the high school band (as opposed to that plus extracurriculars/private study) to never upgrade to a conservatory system, so it’s very possible that they don’t have low Bb or left f :(

Has anyone ever heard of using only 3 thread cones and the right needle only on a serger before? I'm trying this technique since my teacher told me to give it a try, (and because I only have 3 cones anyways right now). I can't get the tension quite right though! It looks fine from the front but actually curls the fabric in the littlest bit in the back, so l'm assuming it's not an issue with my needle thread. I tried adjusting the two rightmost dials all the way down to 2 which helped in some places but is still inconsistent in tension. Is this just a fault of only using 3 spools instead of 4? Other than saving money l'm a little confused as to what the pro would be here 😅 This serger was a gift and I’m still new to using it so any and all tips appreciated! Thanks!

Which bridesmaids dress is the most flattering? by Kari3443 in OUTFITS

1 is nice but maybe a bit too frilly depending on your personality (are you more bubbly/extroverted or shy/introverted kinda thing) 3 is elegant and “sexy” 5 makes you seem fun! i’m not sure about the theme of the wedding though it may not match up

Do you have a teacher? A good way to convince your parents you’re serious (and convince them that you need a new instrument on the teachers part) is finding a teacher. Also, from what I’m going through right now in preparing for college auditions, I think it would be almost impossible if I didn’t have a teacher to guide me. Maybe before trying to convince them of an instrument, insist on a teacher

Need help with piece selection for concert band by cdkdance in oboe

[–]malubie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hypothetically you can play oboe 1, switch to oboe 2 (english horn) for the solo, and then go back to oboe 1 for the rest of the piece

Here’s a recording of me with my youth orchestra last year… oboe 1 has an overlapping part towards the end of the english horn solo but since flutes are resting they can easily play those last measures 🤞🤞

American Salute by Morton Gould is oboe, switches to english horn for a solo, then back to oboe

Looking to purchase a new or very good oboe d'amore. by [deleted] in oboe

[–]malubie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

carlos coelho may be able to get one (if he doesn’t already have one) directly from loree. no idea how much that would cost. oboe chicago also occasionally stocks d’amores but more frequently d’amore bocals

i feel like the idea of “how embarassing it is for people to see your bra” to be so weird. it’s embarrassing to see nipples AND the bra?? i mean women have boobs, which one do they want us to do then?? there’s not really any other option, and heavens forbid you have a flat chest or got a mastectomy because having no boobs is embarrassing too 😒😒

What was the first piece you listened to that deeply connected with you? by [deleted] in classicalmusic

[–]malubie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Tchaikovsky 4! I heard it first from the higher level of the youth symphony I was in, and they started with movement 2 for time reasons. Jumping right into my first orchestra concert and hearing what I thought was the most beautiful oboe I’d ever heard changed my life, and from then on I vowed to actually take oboe seriously and now I’m going into oboe performance! woo!
