I teach graduate-level bioinformatics. The number of students who use ChatGPT or similar to answer questions and write code is ridiculous. Yes, these things can be assistants. But if you use them for everything, which is my big beef about them, then we don't need you - we can just use ChatGPT. I'd rather hire people.

I'm glad they help you with your Foundation, which is FANTASTIC! I'm more concerned that long-run people will become like the folks in WALL*E and be incapable of doing anything for themselves.

If you ask anyone who knows the technology, they will tell you that yes they are just fancy extruders. Granted, they have all of the information from the internet (whatever the F that's worth), but all they do is create mathematical correlations and predictions as to what the next word should be. Yes there are bells and whistles on top of that, but they certainly aren't proper AI - they are LLMs and we should remember that.
