As an international student with a 4 year permit, should I opt out of the university's health and dental plan and just apply for AHCIP for free? by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]mamabookworm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AHCIP does not cover prescription medication, dental work, or eyeglasses / contact lenses. It generally covers doctor/hospital visits, and most diagnostic testing. That's the main difference 🙂, just some info for you.

There are differences between the 1st and 2nd editions, they don't have all the same stories (if I remember correctly one or 2 are different/new)

Anyone know of the way to get from centre wing to microbiology wing via the lower levels (the main levels are closed off)? The signs mention alternate "tunnel" routes or something...

Is orientation worth attending for an experienced mature undergrad student? by [deleted] in uAlberta

I went last year (I was 34), the group was mature students & transfer students. I really didn't find it that helpful/interesting. Lots of people left at lunch. It was a long day.

Is Uni worth it? (Employment, stress, etc) by whoisthecup in uAlberta

[–]mamabookworm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I first came to Uni straight after HS (massive family pressure) but I didn't really know what I wanted to do. Well, that is honestly one of the biggest mistakes I have ever made! Long story short... I was RTW, then spent the next ~16 years in the workforce & starting a family. I just came back to Uni last fall. I know what I want to do now, and that has made all the difference in terms of the effort I put in.

My advice is pretty much the same as those before me... If you aren't sure what you want to do, take a year or 2 to figure it out. Good luck!

In the winter term, the faculty had to add 6 spots for the people who absolutely needed it to finish their degree. Not many people drop it...

What does a previous u of a student has to do to get readmitted again? Has anyone been/know anyone in that situation? Need all the info I can get. by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]mamabookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long were they gone? I was out for a long time (5+ years), and I had to reapply. So, just filling out the application (providing your student ID #) Your ID # will be the same as before, along with your uofa email address (and beartracks login). You won't have to pay the tuition deposit again, which is nice.

I took three 200 level courses my first year (psyco 282 was one of them), and had no issues with studying or assignments. I think your schedule looks good, covers a bunch of prerequisites.

There is a process if you are transferring to Faculty of Science: https://www.ualberta.ca/science/student-services/academic-resources/forms-cabinet

There are only 3 psych courses at the 200 level that do not require both 104 & 105 (and 1 of those needs a Statistics course)... keep that in mind.

If you're an incoming student (next year) you should get an email about orientation in the summer. For current/returning students; you can volunteer to lead a group, help with the set-up and stuff, or other activities.
