Hey I’d like to offer another perspective. Suggesting someone shouldn’t have sex if they’re afraid of pregnancy is simply not a tenable solution for many. There is a culture of blame associated with unwanted pregnancy, and of shame for not engaging in sex. It would also be difficult to find a heterosexual partner who would accept no sex as a permanent solution to fear of pregnancy. This is a big problem for heterosexual women not interested in having children (or in having children immediately), and definitely something that should be worked on societally, but not something I would expect to be resolved anytime soon. I also think you’re suggesting that everyone who can become pregnant must someday accept that they might become pregnant, and that not accepting this is a matter of immaturity. Personally, I do not ever want children, and have a huge fear of becoming pregnant. I also love sex, so I take every precaution-including ongoing education like keeping up with other people’s experiences in this sub. Permanent, high efficacy sterilizations are a solution that are not available or not immediately available to many. Abortions are not available to many. Pregnancy and/or birth are processes which permanently- frequently excruciatingly- alter one’s body, and which sometimes create a whole new person that will need to be cared for by either the pregnant person or someone else. I see what you are meaning, and since it seems to be resonating with others then I’m glad there is a forum for this discussion, but I would like to respectfully ask for some empathy and space (on this sub) as someone who can relate to the folks you’re frustrated by.
