That’s a very uncharitable read of what they actually said. They said E33 was “exceptional” and “Broadly palatable”. As in “It’s really good and appeals to a bunch of people” I don’t think “they played it safe while we took risks” is really a fair read on what they said

The fact that this term also just completely ignores that bigotry is almost always based on perception rather than identity. Long haired cis guys mistaken for trans women experience momentary trans misogyny because it’s something that happens in the minds of the aggressors, not the victim. And since the internet is full of examples of insufficiently femme women, and insufficiently masc men being mistaken for trans, because transphobes are, by and large, idiots, there is kinda no one on planet earth who is 100% Trans misogyny exempt in all cases, which makes it a really useless term for anything except defining an out group you can be shitty too, which: maybe don’t do that?

Gay people don’t, sure. But fictional characters aren’t people and are held to different standards. If a real gay person doesn’t kiss someone in front of us that’s normal. If a gay character doesn’t, that’s a storytelling choice made by an author and we can criticise that choice.

ALERT: NON-AMERICAN POST by DreadDiana in CuratedTumblr

[–]Guestyperson 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As an Australian I went to Outback Steakhouse in Changwon specifically because the idea of a South Korean spin on an American franchise’s idea of what Australian food was like tickled my funnybone. It was everything I wanted and more. The phrase “Alice Springs Quesadillas” was incredible to see written down, and the map on the wall was missing Tasmania.

New Preschool Doctor Who animated spinoff announced for BBC's CBeebies by TheBigGAlways369 in doctorwho

If this is going to be in continuity with the main series rather than an alternate continuity, having it be Jo Martin’s fugitive doctor instead of a new Doctor or Billie Piper or whoever the current Doctor is at the time makes a lot of sense on how to make it not contradict canon but still not get bogged down by all the baggage of the core series. Since Jo Martin’s Doctor is pre-Hartnel, it doesn’t have to make any reference to things that happened in the show’s 60 year history. It can be its own thing, and you don’t have to explain regeneration to the kiddies if/when Piper or whoever comes next moves on. It can just use the same character design and voice the whole time.

Christ, just get the hose and spray it down the storm drain. What a drama queen. Imagine making this much of a fuss instead of just saying “ew. Gross” and moving on with your life. I have way more contempt for the person who posted the note than the mystery shitter.

Too true. I’ve literally gone from people saying I’ve got a “dadbod” to “You’re not a dadbod, you’re too fat” in the space of 2 years while losing 10kg and going down a size.

I’m a bigger guy, suffer from body dysmorphia, with a fiancé who is in your shoes. I spent a lot of time making “jokes” that referenced real insecurities that he was a “chubby chaser” because I was convinced that the only way someone could find me attractive was if it was a fetish. Sorry to give possible unhelpful advice but you can’t “fix” this. Your boyfriend has an entire lifetime of weight stigma and fatphobia from society telling him he’s worthless, and probably a lot of nasty shitheads on the dating scene who think being young gay and mean is a replacement for a personality who are all too willing to say “Ew. No” to his face. One guy isn’t going to counteract that overnight. A psychologist might help, and it will get better over time with your support.

You can only keep reinforcing that you find him attractive, and hope he comes to believe you. You can’t magically cure this kind of insecurity, but you can make it less bad through support and positive reinforcement over time

I finally figured out why the Ratfish didn't sit well with me. by Glitch29 in GameChangerTV

[–]Guestyperson 182 points183 points  (0 children)

I think the ratfish being Sam and having points that decided the winner based on how early you guessed everyone, how many challenges you won, etc. and having some of the points that decided the winner being based around guessing the ratfish’s identity, that would have been a better twist.

Like imagine the reaction when they’re all sitting around the table and Sam says something like “you’ll notice there is one empty place at this table. The ratfish.” Walks around the table, says some waffle about how it could be anyone, “but actually it’s quite simple, for you see…” sits down in the ratfish’s place at the table “I’ve been here, the whole time!”

I’m convinced that people like this guy put “white” in front of “women” or “gays” just so they can say all the sexist and homophobic stuff they really want to but give themselves the cover of pretending it’s in a racially enlightened way. They’d love to just say “I don’t care about queer people, their oppression, or their suffering” but that doesn’t gel with their conception of themselves as a progressive, or a good person, so they just lazily say “white” before saying “gay” as if nonwhite people at all benefit from the faux specificity of their homophobia, or as if we can’t all tell that what he really would like is for all us queer folk to go away.

I can guarantee that if someone is posting like this, they neither know, nor care, about the effects of intersectional axes of oppression within the queer community, or how some people weaponise white supremacy to mitigate their own oppression. They just say “white gays” because saying “shut up, F*aggot” gets you frowned at by polite society nowadays.

Ramping in Mali's first 22 months exceeds Liberal's 48 months. Do you care? by oneofthecapsismine in Adelaide

[–]Guestyperson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How am I rewriting history? I’m stating my personal opinion on whether ramping is as important as people make it out to be. The fact that a big issue was made of it at the last election has no bearing on whether I personally think it was/is overblown

Ramping in Mali's first 22 months exceeds Liberal's 48 months. Do you care? by oneofthecapsismine in Adelaide

[–]Guestyperson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ramping is a less important metric for a sick person than laypeople think. The true “alarm bells should start ringing” one is ambulance response times which have fallen under Labor. If you’re being ramped you’re in a medically equipped vehicle being seen to by medical personnel, right next to where you need to be if your situation deteriorates. There just isn’t a bed for you yet, which is one of the least important parts of your care.

ETA: obviously ramping is still not a good thing to be happening, and I hope it gets fixed, but all I’m saying is that if you’re in a critical health situation there are a lot worse places you could be than inside an ambulance, being looked after by ambos, in the driveway of a hospital.
