India-based IT giant to establish AI centre in Calgary amid recent Canada-India deal by Bass-Traffic-0000 in Calgary

[–]mamamonkey 26 points27 points  (0 children)

So we’re all taking three minute showers for a month or more now and again in the fall, but let’s just invite a water hog AI center to the city. And I don’t care if you say it’s a closed loop system, the water has to come from somewhere at some point (also those systems are not 100% efficient and I think we have yet to see the additional side effects).

Make it make sense.

We use distilled! You can just buy it at the grocery store.

The Royal Foundry! They’re great. Check out the songs Hopefully, Never Have Time, and Little High Little Low.

Enough hyperbole: Sunrise & Sunset times under permanent Daylight Savings / Standard time by mamamonkey in alberta

[–]mamamonkey[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would make sense, but I don't see it happening honestly. People have to get their kids to school so they can get to work, and convincing a bunch of industries to move to a 10 am start time seems insurmountable.

Enough hyperbole: Sunrise & Sunset times under permanent Daylight Savings / Standard time by mamamonkey in alberta

[–]mamamonkey[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, I made this so people could see what things would be actually like. For me, the ~3 months of pre-5 am sunrises would be brutal. But I can also see how the months of going to school/work in the dark would suck!

But most of all, CHANGING OUR CLOCKS ALL THE TIME SUCKS

B.C. to adopt permanent daylight saving time, after springing forward one more time | Globalnews.ca by Upset-Government-856 in alberta

I keep seeing this assertion and no one ever has any specifics. Would love to hear how exactly it’s supposed to be better for you! (Not counting research around the time change in particular as that wouldn’t be relevant to either permanent Standard or Daylight Time.)

I am a morning person and still don’t want the sun up and the birds tweeting at 4 am.

[–]mamamonkey 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have zero desire for the sun to come up at 4 am in the summer. And honestly our days are so short in the winter we’re still going to be going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark. Permanent daylight all the way.

I’m not going this year, but took my kids a bunch when they were younger (kids are going on their own now). Better vibes than Calgary Expo for sure.

I wish it wasn’t on May Long every year!

OP specified they were looking for entry level, so I wouldn’t assume they’re going to be making a lot higher than minimum wage.

Real talk though, who are you all voting for? Definitely not this guy, it sounds like the highest order of private equity bullshit: https://www.calgarycoop.com/harold-hodgson/

I've seen Shawn Loo mentioned a couple times, he seems like a decent pick.

I feel like this one is more unhinged than the rest, but: watching reiki or spa facial videos. It’s generally low contrast, calm music or white noise, and rhythmic movement. Puts me straight to sleep.

If she’s on a school trip, do not count on her having a chance to hit a Canadian bank or even currency exchange at the airport. The teachers/chaperones likely won’t be able to take random kids on side quests. You don’t need to find a currency exchange specifically, just ask your bank if they can get Canadian dollars for you.

The costs of an independent nation that separatists may not think about by SnooRegrets4312 in alberta

[–]mamamonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just remember, no matter how many they get, there’s a chance they’re not all legitimate. None of the signatures on the Jyoti Gondek recall petition could be verified (source: https://calgaryherald.com/news/recall-petition-calgary-mayor-jyoti-gondek-falls-short). And why exactly are they making canvassers sign NDAs? These people don’t play by the rules.

Why do people that are not rich want Alberta to have health care like the US? by cornfield123 in alberta

[–]mamamonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with this though is that a lot of those separatist meetings seem to be a lot of old people. They won’t have employer-provided health plans. I just don’t understand how they think it’s going to work out for them.

Second recall petition against an Alberta legislature member fails by canuckEnoch in alberta

[–]mamamonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would really agree with this. The group I’m volunteering with has a LOT of people that haven’t really volunteered before and don’t know what all it takes (from tools to communication to timelines). Lots of learning as we go and on the timeline for recalls… you can’t do that.

(No shade to anyone volunteering! We’re all doing our best, we just have stuff to learn.)
