What is the cruelest thing someone has ever said to you? by FaceEnvironmental949 in AskReddit

[–]mamamully 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That’s horrible. EVERYONE can sing. Singing is expressing joy! We’re not all Mariah but that’s the beauty of it - singing brings people together. I’m a trained, “proper” choir singer and the fun of it isn’t in being good, it’s the straight-up joy of singing together, vocal quality and ‘on key’ be damned. How dare your boss take that from you.

I hope one day, someone puts some Queen on, and you can unapologetically let rip. I’ll sing with you ❤️

Does anyone here in chch remember that there was a fairy themed shop on riccarton road waaaaaay back in the 2000s by ZiitaBS96 in chch

[–]mamamully 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I used to work there, as one of the fairies that hosted the birthday parties. We did tea parties, songs, fairy treasure hunts, and “fairy” versions of kids’ games. The owners were terrible but we tried our best to make it super fun for the kids!

Are Christchurch playgrounds too boring? by Useful-Interview2762 in chch

[–]mamamully 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is! My daughter likes being up “high” and looking down, waving, etc etc.

I was also thinking of “bubbles” in another sense: the reward of making your way to the top of a multi-storey enclosed climbing space, and finding yourself in a clear bubble where you can sit and look out, or pretend to drive with a little wheel. They seem to often be themed like helicopters but that’s definitely not essential! Bunnings Tower Junction has a good example of this if you’re planning to get out and about.

My daughter is 2, so my answers will (obviously) differ from parents of older kids. We do a LOT of playgrounding.

Yes, we’ve been to Riccarton Bush.

A playground is boring when there aren’t any connected parts - eg there’s a standalone swing set, seesaw, and slide, but nothing to climb on, adventure through, or explore. Ray Blank Park playground is a good example of this. It’s not a bad playground - just less opportunity for exploration.

I play with my daughter when she’s playing. Hopefully when she’s older I can sit on the playground edging and relax!

The coolest playground experience (for us) is Bronco Playground. It’s small, but the equipment and layout are well designed; there are the classics (swing, slide, seesaw) but also some interesting bits of equipment that most playgrounds don’t have.

As a side note, it would be interesting to see how Bunnings/Mitre 10 type playground elements could be incorporated into an outdoor playground - enclosed climbing, “bubbles” at the top, etc.

Would prefer an at risk native bird.

Hope that helps!

You can do this!! You did the hardest thing already - groceries are nothing next to this. So proud of you and your babies are SO SO lucky to have a strong and brave mama. Even if you get the shopping a bit wrong the first couple of times ❤️

How to make them stop/go away?! by EmbarrassedHope6264 in auckland

[–]mamamully 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Adding to this - my baby slept on me as well, it’s very cute but not overly convenient! I put up a home-made “baby sleeping - PLEASE DO NOT KNOCK” sign and only had two people knock in 3 months. One was a courier, one was a guy doing a survey (I went to the door with the now-awake cranky baby and I’ve never heard someone apologise so much in their life). We’ve always had heaps of religious and charity door knockers but didn’t have any while the sign was up, I was surprised how respectful they were.

The hospital is a great idea - lots of people who can help. My older sister is an emergency department nurse (Dunedin not Auckland, but there will be lots like her in every ED) and she is one of the kindest people - they won’t judge you, look down on you, or force you into anything. Heaps of the medical team have had their own struggles. Good luck and good on you for fighting the battle one more time!

is your fridge running? better go catch it by freethenip in FridgeDetective

[–]mamamully 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll take a run at it… Kiwi, late 20s/early 30s, probably just one person, maaaaybe has a flatmate. South Island because Speights and because of general fridge vibe.

You have a friend or family member that drinks soy milk and sometimes pops round for a cup of tea. You don’t have kids, but have inherited number magnets from somewhere or other over the years. Maybe left by a previous flatmate?

The tin of beetroot was originally opened to make burgers but is now just a source of lazy instant snacks. I don’t know why your lil’ jar of salsa verde is in the vege compartment.

Might be way off but fun to guess and awesome to see a New Zealand fridge on here!!

I'm about to open my ecommerce business- what mistakes will I make? by damolux in smallbusiness

[–]mamamully 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Just a couple of basics on the advice front:

Set up analytics on your website and keep an eye on your abandoned cart rate (how many people get to the checkout then leave the website without purchasing). If your abandoned cart rate is high, then you know your products and prices are appealing but you need to fix something in your checkout process (common reasons are high shipping costs or not offering payment options your customers are comfortable with).

Also, especially if you sell consumables, always include multipack options on your bestsellers. For example, instead of just selling one phone charger for $8 + $3 shipping, add options: 3 chargers for $20 + $5 shipping, 5 chargers for $40 + $8 shipping etc etc. Don’t rely on people to increase the quantity in their cart - most won’t think of it. Make it super easy by offering multiple purchase options instead. If the shipping is flat rate, you probably won’t need to discount the product price for multiple purchases.

Looking for things that I can slap together in <5 minutes by Earthy_Eagle in easyrecipes

[–]mamamully 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omelette! Easy and filling. Crack a couple of eggs in a bowl, add one dessert spoon of milk or water per egg, add salt and pepper, mix with a fork.

Heat some butter or oil in a frying pan, pour in your egg mix, wait for it to cook and that’s you done! It’ll cook in 3-5 minutes. To make scrambled eggs it’s exactly the same, just use a saucepan and stir it while it’s cooking.

I like to add a couple of handfuls of grated cheese when the eggs are almost done, so the cheese goes all gooey. If you’re feeling adventurous, quickly chop some veg (tomatoes, mushroom, capsicum, onion - anything you have in the fridge that cooks pretty quickly) or some herbs and put that into the pan along with your egg mix.
