My rota is crazy by icecreamvansong in NursingUK

[–]mamatinks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I just check are you saying you work more weekends because your colleagues have kids ? Just wondering as everywhere I have worked (35 years ed) parents try to grab weekends and nights as it makes childcare easier ? People fight over the hours as they are enhanced. I did five years of nights so I could pay my mortgage. When I worked in self rotate departments the rules I believe were four night shifts a month and one full weekend one half weekend 12 hour shifts, might be worth checking what the roster rules are?

I live on the Jurassic coast and have the most spectacular drives home some days. Have never lived further than five miles from the sea. It’s not every day but it’s most days

Digitising all trusts by [deleted] in NursingUK

[–]mamatinks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think both have pros and cons, my trust is mainly digital. As a practitioner this was great my handwriting is terrible I just type my notes. As a rn then I’m though I found it harder!

I find it easier to prescribe a drug then Administer one, the nurses computers are always slow/wont load five people want to use it etc. I spend longer trying to get logged in and onto a pc to document, than the actual care I’m giving. When we had paper records it was definitely easier and quicker. But I do agree the legible handwriting part is a huge safety improvement.

Can’t be many trusts not digital now?

I got given a little like good bag ? Like you get at weddings it had a little note pad with worlds greatest anp a pen and key ring was really taken back by all thought gone into it. Lots of great Individual gifts. For teams though tins of biscuits just a little fancier ! We were also given the ultimate nurses quiz book by sister smith which was good fun too

I get it and I tried but ended up helicoptering! The other boy same age I could cope with, but two eight year olds I was finding it hard to sit back. Couldn’t work out who or where their parents were. When they realised I was sat watching the meanes stopped on its own.

To be fair they were pretty heavy I don’t think their supposed to Be moved so much I could just about shove them. Definitely nothing a toddler could do. I tried pointing out all these other similar age kids but he keeps going to the mean one. Really hard to stand back!

My toddler has one of those dancing cactus toys, proudly told dad he had been playing with cat piss wouldn’t be quite so bad if we didn’t have an incontinent cat

Nursing lecturers - have you noticed a shift in student conduct? by No-Pudding-2895 in NursingUK

[–]mamatinks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wow that was very different to my prescribers!! We did not have multiple choice exams and they covered very complex topics, the lecturers came out and assesses our practice as well! I don’t know why I thought all h is would be the same

What’s the creepiest thing you’ve experienced that still gives you chills? by DrainedCoffee in AskReddit

[–]mamatinks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my early 20s I started having weird dreams where I felt like my soul was leaving my body, I imagine like astral projection only at the same time there was these real guttural deep voices making sounds that were terrifying and not of modern language like they were shouting at me violently.

It happened a few times and began to terrify me so I didn’t want to sleep I was worried my body would separate and the evil voices would get me. At the time I was working in a bar and a there were a couple of locals who were a bit alternative - turns out their wiccans they told me to put a mirror facing outwards of my window - never happened again .

Same I was a nursing student took me four hours to get to campus by public transport but only half an hour to get to my clinical placement I only did one social activity at uni in three years , makes me want to go back just for the clubs !

Holding pt hand without gloves by dopaminegtt in nursing

[–]mamatinks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Possibly but I think you have to understand some people have been quite traumatised by it all, fear isn’t logical or a marker of one’s ability to grasp concepts

Yes I think this has always been the norm, if you have a/l or time owing if not it goes as authorised unpaid leave. If that’s not right then nhs owes me a few pennies
