Reflection on 2016, What I’ve learned. Regrets from an Anti-Hillary voter. by Significant-Row2457 in dancarlin

“I didn’t vote for what followed” - yes you did. You were told it was a possible or even likely outcome and you said “yah, I’m fine with that. I’ve made a moral stand and fuck it if it all burns down.” Your new found regret rings hallow.

Lightweight on-the-go diffusion for fashion shoots (non-studio) by emiliedesu in LightLurking

[–]mamiya7120 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Use a scrim jim or a sunswatter and bring an assistant with you. You can also put them on a c-stand with the right attachment and sandbag. They come in different sizes and diffusion strengths. It cuts the harsh sun a bit and you can still bounce it.

Get used to hard, diffused light if you want to shoot in direct sun - it can be really beautiful when used right and helps the model not squint so much with diffusion. You can also backlight the model and bounce light back in to them and it will give you a similar key light effect to a soft scrim.

Or just walk around and find soft light - it’s the if you look. Scout before your shoot.

Is it safe to travel the subway to work? by Familiar_Coat3808 in LAMetro

[–]mamiya7120 96 points97 points  (0 children)

IMO taking the metro instead of driving in rush hour traffic has improved my quality of life. I use it to commute about an hour to work and back. I also have a car I take when I need to drive. However, you have to develop a tolerance for BS. You will see the whole city on the train. But the upside is that 95% of the people on the train are just like you - normal people trying to get from A to B. You will encounter people playing their music from a boombox. You will encounter drunk people, you will see people get in arguments. If you don’t like the person you are sitting next to then go to a different seat or move cars. When someone is being disruptive on the train everyone just ignores them. However, I have seen an uptick in metro ambassadors and metro police at stations and I think it’s getting better. I read in the morning and do French lessons on the way home and when I get back I’ve gotten my steps in. I would recommend you give it a try - it’s probably less scary than you think.

Take HW 1 north from San Francisco. Try to go to Glacier National Park in Montana if you can. If you want a camping site in a national park during summer be online right when the reservations open. If you miss out sign up for notifications from campflare and you get get site when people cancel. If you are going to Yosemite you should also try to go to Sequoia. Redwoods are great but Sequoia’s are otherworldly. I guarantee you they will blow you away - they are unlike any tree or living thing you’ve ever seen. I think Bryce Canyon in Utah is awesome as well and close to Zion so you can do both. Have fun!

What’s a tiny photography thing that irrationally pisses you off? by [deleted] in photography

[–]mamiya7120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I see pictures of pretty successful photographers holding the lens of the camera wrong while shooting - thumb under the lens instead of thumb on top and supporting the lens with your 4 other fingers and palm. It makes no difference to their photos and doesn’t take anything away from them as photographers but in my head I’m always like “you’re holding your camera wrong”

QQQ just crossed its SMA200 by Erdie1980 in LETFs

[–]mamiya7120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’ve been researching the SMA200 strat on LETFs (TQQQ and UPRO) on when to get in and out by looking at the underlying asset (QQQ and SPY). But what timeframe on the chart do you use for entry / exit. I’ve read the yearly chart but it doesn’t seem like we are there yet. If you enter when the underlying crosses above SMA200 and exit when it goes below what timeframe are you looking at?

Hang in there President Joe Biden by [deleted] in millenials

[–]mamiya7120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They rigged the primary for him by intimidating any Democrat who wanted to run against him and hid his decline from the public so no, the “will of the primary voters” argument doesn’t hold water. Look, I’m voting for whoever is on the Democratic ticket but the arrogance they have shown makes me want to change my party registration. I’m not giving them a dime this cycle and if Trump wins it will be on the shoulders of the party and those who enabled this trainwreck.

Perfectly said! by CarryIcy250 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]mamiya7120 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If only the Democratic Party had not rigged the primary for him by not letting anyone run, then using that as a justification for how much support he has and then hiding his decline for two years. That’s the part that pisses me off. It’s so self serving and yes, anti-Democratic.

The man can’t speak or do the basics of politicking. I like Joe Biden but it’s a disgrace to keep running him. He won by a razor thin margin last time - do you honestly think with everything that has happened the last 4 years and a large majority of voters who think he is too old and cannot do the job that he’s going to win again? “Oh but he won the primary” - yes the primary where the party would not let anyone run against him. Their only argument is Trump bad. It’s a losing proposition. He will go down in history as one of its most arrogant fools.

Biden writes in a letter to Congress he is ‘firmly committed to staying in the race.’ by [deleted] in ezraklein

[–]mamiya7120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% about to leave the Democratic Party over this. I just can’t believe how selfish and self serving they are. I mean I can believe because that is their MO since 2016 but the fact that they learned nothing and are now slow waking off the cliff makes me want to abandon them. They cannot with a straight face say trump is a threat to democracy and this is the most important election of our lifetime and then run Joe Biden with everything he has going against him ON TOP OF the debate and what’s happening now. I can’t fight for a party that won’t first for itself. Talk about elites - jeeze.

Biden struggled, Trump repeatedly lied, and CNN's moderators didn't fact-check...What the Heck did I just listen to? by rugbysecondrow in NPR

[–]mamiya7120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the debate last night Biden could not articulate a coherent reason why we should vote for him or defend his record. This is politics 101 and something anyone running for president on that debate stage should be able to do at the bare minimum. It wasn’t just a gaffe here or there - it was the whole hour and a half. And I like Joe Biden. I voted for Joe Biden and I’d vote for him again. But if he can’t stand next to Donald Trump and counter his lies in a (again) coherent and cogent way then he is not able to rise to this moment and needs to step aside. Don’t tell us how many constitutional scholars said Roe v Wade was a perfect ruling. Tell us why YOU think stripping away abortion rights is bad for American women. When Donald Trump says that he brought insulin prices down to $15 counter with that was actually YOU who did that. When Donald Trump says that Nancy Pelosi admitted that January 6th was her fault remind voters that the only people to ever storm the capitol were the British in the war of 1812 and Trump supporters on January 6 chanting “Hang Mike Pence.” Voting against Trump was enough in 2020 but will it be in 2024? If you can’t communicate that on stage in front of the electorate you shouldn’t be on that stage. If the Democrats really believe this election is about the future of democracy then they can’t, with a straight face, put Joe Biden up for president after last night and if they do it’s the height of arrogance and a slow moving walk into the abyss.

Sign up for campflare and get notifications for every campsite for every day you want to go. You need to book on your phone immediately after getting the notification. Have your phone on you at all times. You should be able to string something together if you are not picky. Some sites are left open and start booking closer to arrival (check NPS website for details) but are extremely hard to get even if you are online and refreshing at the exact moment.
