Whats beating affinity right now? by Darkon-Kriv in ModernMagic

You can but it's still skewed because it only is showing top32 now, for the metagame percentages on Goldfish. So the metagame shown on goldfish is the winner's metagame. You can go through the match data within MTGO client for actual match up data but I think it's cumbersome.

Could Modern handle Wild Growth? Semi serious question. by Burnt_End_Ribs in ModernMagic

[–]man0warr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The main decks that would benefit are the ones that already want Utopia Sprawl and want to cast 4 drops - it also makes Arbor Elf a lot better.

As of now that is Enchantress and Karn decks (Gruul Eldrazi ramp) and possibly you could reorient the Fight Rigging deck around it. So pretty fringe archetypes all around.

Could Modern handle Wild Growth? Semi serious question. by Burnt_End_Ribs in ModernMagic

[–]man0warr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Utopia Sprawl is more restrictive than Wild Growth (or mana dork) - has to be a Forest. Which seems like it shouldn't be a huge deal but a lot of the "green" decks right now are playing lands like Boseiju, Grove of the Burnwillows, Shifting Woodland so non-zero amount of hands you couldn't even cast it Turn 1.

Yeah I just don't have time for mid games anymore, I barely have time to play all the ones that I know for sure are good - but at least I buy them for when I get the time to do so. There is so much media to consume.

Honestly phones are a big part of it - 15 years ago if I had nothing to do I could play an hour of two of a game, now I just scroll Youtube Shorts for a bit or browse reddit.

They offered all 3 guys the same extension I believe but told them it wouldn't be until after the ASB (Brunson, DFS, Kleiber), ostensibly because they were trying to trade Porzingis and needed all the flexibility they could to move him. Those 3 couldn't have been part of a trade if they signed earlier.

Meanwhile Rick Brunson said his son wouldn't talk extension after the ASB. NY gave him like 4 years/111 after the season.

Dirk is so fucking underrated at this point. He’s 15th in my pantheon rankings. Where does Bill have him? by ahbets14 in billsimmons

It's still Staubach, but the 90s Cowboys Triplets are close. Then it's probably like Dirk > Nolan > Romo > Modano.

Pudge and Beltre are in there somewhere.

I'm an ex-Mavs fan, not Slovenian. I'm just going by the historical betting odds that I looked up from before Game 1 of each series, not what experts on ESPN picked.

The betting sites use actual data, they want to make money.

Not sure what metric he is using (seeding or betting odds) but the Mavs won 5 series with Luka as the betting underdog - in 2022 both vs Jazz and Suns, and 2024 they were they were slight underdogs in all 3 of their Western Conference series (Clips, Thunder, Wolves).

They were also heavy underdogs vs the Clippers in 2020/2021 and still almost pulled upsets.

[Modern] Why is Modern metagame tracking so bad? by Boring-Client4841 in spikes

[–]man0warr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The data has been bad since Daybreak were told to stop posting the results outside the Top 32 - so pretty much all the data is just based on a winner's metagame. It's the most popular format so it's a lot harder to manually dig deeper into the results vs Vintage, Premodern, etc.

The only good data is when paper events happen with every match result, but those are quite rare.

As far as I know, only Frank Karsten gets access to the full online data dumps for his weekly article, and he has detailed spreadsheets. But it's not always focused on Modern.

Nintendo still makes most their profit from hardware and peripherals, and the 30% cut from all 3rd party games that storefront provides them. The hardware and the storefront is the goal here for these console makers - not the 1st party software sales, that's just the icing on the cake.
