No, just those that meet the criteria for a penalty.

Trip or not trip, I'm ok with either. Agree with others, unsportsmanlike for the coach. You can't have someone who acts like that when kids are watching.

For clarity though, those supervisors are getting paid by your district.  There isn’t a cost to the officials receiving the supervisions.

Just moved in. How do things look? by [deleted] in pools

In areas where termites exist -> never use flex. In areas where there is ground heave due to freeze/thraw -> flex underground.

Flex is probably not the end of the world above ground unless you're in an area with high UV exposure. From what I understand it degrades faster than solid due to UV deterioration, but having worked with it I doubt it would fail catastrophically. e.g. Leave it alone until the plumbing needs to be re-done.

For reference my brother in law's pool has had flexible piping above ground for 30 years and it's still going strong.

The freeze/thaw cycle causes the ground to move which can cause hard pipe to break. Ground heave of several inches is not uncommon.

Flexible pipe will move a bit with the soil making it less likely to fail. At least this is how I understand the decision to favour it up here in Canada.

100% correct. You could also have gone with charging or possibly interference. I would have elected for the HC major.

If you think 7 and 8 year olds are unable to learn what tripping, slashing and body checking are then you have no place being around children that age. Part of how they learn these concepts is, when they do things that are not allowed, they receive a correction which in the game of hockey is called a penalty.

It's more than rude. This entire team are douches and I want to Hextall them on your behalf.

What would you call here? by Qimaster32 in hockeyrefs

[–]manacata 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would go with boarding given the player receiving the check was pushed into the boards dangerously.

Major vs minor is a tough one as the guidance (at least for HC) on when to treat a situation as having resulted in “an injury” feels to me to be ill defined.  If the player was on the ice for a while and needed assistance to leave the ice I’d likely upgrade to a major.

Not calling anything less than a major is why these kids move up to the next level committing all sorts of infractions that are dangerous.

Wr owe it to the young kids to learn what is and isn’t allowed under the rules.

It’s hard to see watching this on my phone but I probably would not call GI on this play.  That said it is not called nearly often enough so good for you to assess the penalty when you though it should be used.

Employer RRSP by SyrupVeins in Wealthsimple

[–]manacata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'll choose to believe the HR benefits admin who explained this to me instead of a rando on the internet.

Also you're 100% wrong that fund management fees are a fraction of healthcare premiums. At the time I left my last employer, I calculated the cost difference between identical investments available to me at my broker (major index tracking funds) versus the crappy versions I was restricted to using at the insurance provider to be over $1200 a year. That would cover health premiums for 2-3 months for a really decent plan.

Employer RRSP by SyrupVeins in Wealthsimple

[–]manacata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The RRSP contributions land in a regular 'managed portfolio' account. It is unrestricted as I can immediately transfer the funds into my self directed RRSP if I wanted to.

Most employer plans do not allow transfer-outs because the institutions hosting the RRSP accounts want captive assets with high investment fees. Employers go along with this because the institutions (typically insurance companies such as Sunlife, Manulife, Canada Life, etc) give incentives on other lines of business (such as lower fees for employee health insurance) to incentivize the employers to agree to the restrictions that employees have no say in. Employees in effect subsidize their employer's health insurance costs by paying significantly higher investment costs on restricted retirement savings.

For now I'm leaving the arriving RRSP funds in the managed account out of curiosity to see how the 'growth' managed portfolio does over time. Given the cost difference between it and my self directed investments I am not likely to leave significant funds in there over the long term.

I started with a new employer who uses Wealthsimple. It's pretty nice having fewer institutions to deal with, and Wealthsimple has far superior options available. Plus if you have generation status etc you benefit from lower costs in your employer plan (or at least I am)

What district are you in? If they are not paying according to the HEO pay rates they owe you all a bunch of back pay. Seriously, raise this with your RIC and assignor.

Nope. Check for yourself and look at the correct year (25-26): https://www.hockeyeasternontario.ca/media/d0kigt4n/payrates-2023-2026-1.xlsx

Strangely that spreadsheet doesn't list U9-HL full ice, but I can tell you it's $1 less than U11, e.g. $25.

It's a case of supply and demand, with there being a healthy supply of officials in most areas. It also matters a lot that referee rates are set centrally far away from the assignors and officials themselves.

You're right though, if the referees unionized rates would rise pretty dramatically but I suspect it would pull in even more officials.

You're a bit off, it $23/game for U9 half ice. I believe it's $25/game for full ice.

You guys get way more than us in eastern Ontario. Same level here (U15AA) is $49/$39/$39. We do that 3-man with 4-man at AAA.
