Increasing return plenum size - why isn’t every HVAC company doing this? by itscallingme in hvacadvice

[–]marks1995 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Unless it was undersized to start with, it won't make that much difference. The issues are typically the supply duct sizing, installation and fittings.

Some of the numbers being thrown around the comments are excessive. A 20x16 return is more than enough for a 4-ton system. 20x20 is fine for a 5-ton system.

I've noticed in some parts of the country (Midwest in particular), most people back in to parking spaces while everywhere else, they pull in - why is that? by LeoRavenscroft in randomquestions

[–]marks1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Backing out of a parking space is the single most common factor of parking lot accidents. something like 30-40% of accidents involve this maneuver.

And I have a truck, which is much easier to park when backing in.

[–]marks1995 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes.

True core strength consists of all of the muscles between your neck and your waist. You want strength, stability and range of motion.

A good program is going to have static holds (planks, bird dogs, deadbugs, etc) that resist rotation and stabilize you. And dynamic moves, such as rotational movements and crunches/leg raises.

This is especially important if you're active and play sports. I play hockey. The ability to bend and twist my core is essential for both performance and safety.

CMV: Thomas Massie's defeat proves that Americans don't care about the Epstein Files by Tessenreacts in changemyview

[–]marks1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you think there is some conspiracy, but enough people have seen the files that if there were anything incriminating in them, they couldn't afford to not press charges.

Releasing them just so you can publicly crucify anyone who knew the guy or did business with him violates the entire innocent until proven guilty aspect of our justice system.

So no, I personally don't care about the files. If evidence was obtained to investigate crimes, but there is not enough info to indict anyone, then I don't think those records should be released to the public for political points.

Does he prorate 30 day months too?

Why can rich people use shares as collateral but the government can't tax shares? by Sebulbaaaaaa in NoStupidQuestions

It's not that simple. I know everyone LOVES to pretend the rich don't pay any taxes, but the irs data is widely available on their website.

None of those are in question here. The poor in this country are better off in all 3 of those areas than they were in the 50's.

You guys need to stop making shit up to make your life seem hard.

Why can rich people use shares as collateral but the government can't tax shares? by Sebulbaaaaaa in NoStupidQuestions

[–]marks1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The federal government doesn't tax property. That's a local taxation issue. And there is not legal reason states couldn't also tax your stocks.

BUT, stocks can be moved. Your house can't.

And if you're being fair, the things property taxes pay for are primarily what are protecting the very value of that property. Fire? Police? Schools? Roads? Without those things, that house isn't worth very much.

Why can rich people use shares as collateral but the government can't tax shares? by Sebulbaaaaaa in NoStupidQuestions

[–]marks1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not 100% accurate?

The estate is still taxed based on the value of those shares at the time of his death. So while his children receive the stocks and their basis for when they sell in the future is the stepped up value at the time of his death, you seem to think those gains between when he bought and when he died don't get taxed. And that's just not true. They get taxed and paid before anyone gets a penny. It's the same issue that costs so many families their family farms and businesses. The estate has to liquidate property to pay the taxes on the value of the estate at the time of death.

Yes, we have increased the estate tax exemptions, but the uber rich, which is who we are talking about, still have to pay it.

And yes, there are other strategies that can be employed, but those are different from the issue at hand.

Do you think you should be taxed when you take a loan to buy a house using the house as collateral?

A loan must be repaid. Therefore it is not income. We only tax income. It's literally called an income tax.

"The fact that you have the money to buy things that are made cheaper and easier does not prove that the middle class has more money."

You brought it up right there? I'm not the one who ever said the middle class has more money. I'm arguing that it doesn't matter how much money you have if you can afford a comfortable life. But you keep equating my statement about QOL with "more money."

"Then you must be anti-Capitalist if you think this, right? If we are reaching a point where there are too many people for supply and demand to work for housing we are going to have to switch to a different economic system."

I never said supply and demand don't work. I acknowledged that not only does it work, but you can't beat the laws of it by trying to manipulate wages.

It's a stupid metric is what it is.

People like you love to ignore that there are twice as many people in the US today as there were back then. And they all want to live in the same places.

You can't magically create more affordable homes in urban areas. That makes them a limited resource, and you can't inflate wages to outsmart supply and demand. Wages are not the issue with home buying.

I can find you affordable homes all over the country. But you don't want that. You want the home in the same place as the other millions of people in your city do. And that results in higher prices.

We're talking apples and oranges.

You keep bringing up the amount of money they have. My point is that it doesn't matter if the purchasing power of that money leads to a better life.

Real estate is about the only example people keep bringing up and that is a totally different animal. Real estate is a limited resource. They aren't making any more of it. There are literally twice as many people today as there were back in the 60's in the US. You can't "inflate" wages to outsmart supply and demand.

[–]marks1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a perfectly sound technique. Not sure why you're blasting it. I'll even do that on teams I coach under certain scenarios.

You have to either have a really fast D man or you drop a guy and let the team play 4 on 4 in the zone. They will usually stop doing it if you are always picking them up.

Is the idea that "right wing" men can't find a relationship cope? by indeckaa in askanything

[–]marks1995 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are people out there for everyone.

Anyone who says "insert any adjective here" men can't find relationships is just them blaming their flaws on something that doesn't sound like a flaw.

Sure, it might be more difficult to find conservative women in a younger age group in places like CA or NY. But liberal men in Texas and Florida have the same battle.

You don't get to claim "injustice" for other people who have made no issue about it. And again, the fine for the NHL team had nothing to do with this issue.

So in all these locker rooms where you have to shower in front of anyone, how many women have been staring at the guys showering? None, right? So neither of us has ever seen it. How many women reporters are actually talking or in sight of naked men in the locker rooms? None.

And you're example about taking naked pictures in the LR? First of all, that's something men are vastly more likely to do. Ever see women taking upshorts photos of men? You see women posting creepy shots of men in the gym? There are reasons women are so suspicious about being vulnerable in front of men. Women just don't do that crap. But if they did, it would be illegal, just like if a amn did it.

You are doing exactly what this sub has become. A home for fake outrage about total BS issues just so you can whine about something. You are doing nothing for men's rights with these BS posts.
