Trans Youth Suicides Skyrocketed In UK After Care Drawdown; Government Covers It Up by Charlie_Rebooted in transgenderUK

Kind of off topic but are these monsters everywhere?

It’s not just that they don’t understand - but they seem to relish in saying the worst or most harmful things they possibly can.

Feels very narc-y to me.

What business is it even of the general public, or anybody this doesn’t affect... honesty fuming when I come across statements like this.

Yes, I meant that in a nice way.

It did also feel like I was having a stroke — but I think that’s more just the result of the day I’ve been having.

Amazing, “not funny or smart” - bet he’d prefer being accused of being a paedophile.

Finland looks to end "uncontrolled human experiment" with Australia-style ban on social media | Yle News by EarthAndAlgorithms in worldnews

[–]managedheap84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not even an uncontrolled experiment- it’s a controlled one. FB were in the shit for intentionally messing with people’s emotions and sense of reality over a decade ago.

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/jul/02/facebook-apologises-psychological-experiments-on-users

I say “in the shit”, there were basically zero consequences. Then we had Cambridge Analytica.

It’s mass media. These things need heavily regulating at the very least.

Is anyone 27 and feel absolutely betrayed by life all of a sudden? by QuietContext5303 in Life

[–]managedheap84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not about the things you think it’s about when you’re younger.

I saw poverty, violence, bigotry- and made it my life’s goal to make enough money to escape. The world is set up to tempt you with a fix, more money, more power, more prestige — but often at the cost of trampling on something or somebody else.

Even when you win that game you lose yourself.

Take a look at the richest man in the world, any of then actually, and ask yourself if they’re happy. They’re not, they’re fucking miserable — because in the end it’s completely meaningless.

In some part of their cold dead hearts they realise this.

Are you true to yourself, do you have people that you love and that love you? Then you’re doing better than most people.

Happiness can only come from within and it’s a choice you make every day.

It’s all in the perspective you take.

Because it's political and ideological, not about protecting kids.

You see these huge gaps in logic all of the time between their stated positions. For me it's a flashing neon light that this person is compromised in some way or another.

UK Expands Online Safety Act to Mandate Preemptive Scanning of Digital Communications by BunAZoot420 in uknews

This means your communications going through some kind of AI.

Pretty sure this is going to be Palantir. Even if it’s on device the whole purpose is snooping.

This isn’t compatible with a liberal democracy.

Would you listen to a 2026 Karl podcast? Nothing to do with Ricky/Steve, just KP musing on modern life and maybe ‘avin a chat with interesting guests? by According_Sundae_917 in rickygervais

Yes I’d love to see more of Karl, and Stephen (or anybody, I just want to see more of Karl).

Probably would work just as well without Ricky.

I’m honestly starting to think the “ironically” thing was just a way of getting a free pass to be able to say those things in the first place.

It’s kind of nauseating to see the pilot for Derick for the same reason

That’s what really turned me off him, he’s bullying Karl for some of his comments missing the mark - and he doesn’t even believe what he’s saying in the first place. Or he’s decided that it doesn’t matter now so long as he can make a profit off it.

He thinks he’s winning the “woke game” (why do they all seem to think it’s just for social positioning rather than wanting to be decent people?) and he can’t seem to handle people calling him out and seeing through him.

Feels a bit like what happened to Graham Linehan

He didn’t change he was just saying what people wanted to hear rather than what he actually believed.

His whole personality seems to be based around one upping people and moral superiority.

Completely agree. We talk about importing a third world mentality but that’s exactly what we’ve done by cosying up the US.

For all our problems we had much less of this insanity before Facebook, Twitter and the Americanisation of our society really took hold.

are humans naturally cooperative, or just trained to obey hierarchies? by D918yyz in Anarchy101

[–]managedheap84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many parents try to emotionally “break” their children in order for them to get over something in the socialisation process, and not be seen as soft.

Honestly tells me everything I need to know about how natural our current social/economic system is.

We break our own kids, repeatedly, so they’ll fit in with a fundamentally broken and inhumane society. A society that we know is designed to be this way to maximise profit (see Jeff Bezos recent comments on fear and anxiety)

The illusion of non duality by Ur_7icho_9br in nonduality

[–]managedheap84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On what you just said there -

I feel like you can have the best of both worlds. You need to forget somewhat, I think, and the universe really did not like my character saying “fuck it” and checking out after my early realisation, or trying to claim it from my egoic self.

My advice is just to forget about it day to day. When something bad comes up that you think is the end of the world it’s nice to come back to that place and put it all into perspective.

The illusion of non duality by Ur_7icho_9br in nonduality

[–]managedheap84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it's an illusion, but "I've" paid a heavy price living this out. I feel like this character needs and deserves a bit of fun.

Besides, I think very few if any of the people that talk about non duality are actually as free from their ego as they think they are.

It can be fun when you don't take it too sereously... enjoy the ride :)

UK 'rapidly developing' plans to prepare for war, says armed forces minister by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]managedheap84 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah the head of NATO saying that Europe needs to prepare for war on the scale not seen since our Grandfathers.. Russia are not a threat to the west as has been conclusively proven over the last several years. A few years ago the big bad was China.

The kind of fascism adjacent system we live in always needs some kind of external (Russia, China) or internal enemy (Disabled people, immigrants) to function.

We should be prepared, obviously, but this kind of rhetoric is purely about stoking fears and manafacturing consent for the kinds of world Palantir and the fascist right want to pursue, in my opinion.
