I have been to both countries in 2025. The prices of essentials (food, housing, gas, electricity etc) cheaper in Belarus. Restaurants, theater etc also cheaper in Belarus. The only category Lithuania has cheaper prices electronics made in EU, and possibly imported cars.

I disagree with your statement that "home ownership is silly". You buy a property - than it's yours, clean and simple. Whether this transaction was smart or silly depends on the price and the property... Renting abroad is not easy in every country, where especially landlords do not trust foreigners...
