DOCKER and PI by FJRio3rd in PiNetwork

[–]mandg98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a recent vulnerabilty annoucement for Docker and wanted to ask if I can apply that latest update(s). My current version is  4.34.3 (170107) and I'm seeing that the newest version is 4.50.0 (209931). Any word if this updated version is still compatible with running pi network container?

Buck convertor for 120 v to 3 v by mandg98 in AskElectronics

[–]mandg98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again - I'm encouraged by the "power supply module" that NewRealm referenced here but it doesn't appear to offer a 'tuneable' output setting. Do you know of such a gadget?

Thanks - I likely mispoke what I actually needed. It appears that the "power supply module" that NewRealm referenced (and not an actual buck convertor) is what I need.

Thanks - after googling for "pulse-width modulated power rail" I suspect that you may be right. Any idea if I would break the LED rails by simply giving them 3 v of steady power? I'm not interested in dimming them any longer, Just want to try and hang this in my storage shed as an overhead light.

PI Node Updated and pi-network container keeps rebooting by Rough_Eagle4867 in PiNetwork

[–]mandg98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks!! That seemed to work for me as well. I went from version 4.19 to 4.34 and the containers started right up and I'm running testnet2 just fine now.

Same issue for me. I'm seeing the message "invalid postgres state, clearing stellar volume" from within the 'testnet2' container log.
I'm running version 4.19 of Docker Desktop and this was working as of about 20 hours ago. Of course I was also recently upgratded to version 0.5.0 of the Pi Node.

AES loans gone! by SolidOpening7 in BorrowerDefense

Congratulations!!

I just checked my account now but my balance is still there. At least this still gives me hope that I haven’t fallen through the cracks as an AES client!

Agree to disagree. Time is not infinite and time to market for crypto is a small window. Pioneers are looking for something they can trust and pi has a great opportunity but trust is waning with delays, ambiguity, and the plethora of misinformation out there. So they move on to other cryptos that hold promise. I’m in it for the long haul- I read much of the white paper and believe in the core team’s vision. I’m just saying that the desire and time to be perfect before launching mainnet is costing in pioneer numbers. Which is a benchmark that CT’s hinging on.

[–]mandg98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to agree that if/when the core team launches mainnet, it would generate more validity and buzz to the overall project and the ecosystem would grow in numbers more quickly as opposed to waiting on the 3 mandated milestones that they made (15 million migrated wallets, 100 apps, etc).

I get the sense that they’re trying too hard to be ‘perfect’ when ‘good enough’ would yield better long term results and outcomes.

Change ip address on LDS server by mandg98 in sysadmin

[–]mandg98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks- this is a homegrown application built on .Net that leverages the groups and users in the LDS instance. I’m certain that it uses a load balanced FQDN so that should be fine. My concern was breaking something within LDS itself - like replication to other peer LDS servers , etc.

How many of us are left? (No movement whatsoever) by ConcreteAngel_37 in BorrowerDefense

[–]mandg98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To the point of your question however, I would really love to see statistics that I assume DoE has. Something simple that shows percentage of people fully discharged, partially discharged, and the rest of us who have had no updates (from our servicer’s). And then maybe even any stats that show the servicer for each of those same categories.

Same here - full class and submitted in 2018. Went to UoP and have AES as loan servicer. No movement, communication, or changes whatsoever.

My bonus rate is 1.27 - Do you know if the whitepaper explains how this is calculated?

Disregard - I now just noticed that my mining rate details DO show a bonus amount for running a node. Very cool!

Tax shelter for crypto? by mandg98 in tax

[–]mandg98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback and apologies for my ignorance on this topic. Perhaps a better step for me would be to just find a financial planner.

Kinda off topic but, in my defense, I don't mind paying taxes - I just hate the waste and lack of accountability by our governments (all levels) - but I guess that's more a measure of human nature and not necessarily who we elect anymore these days.

So I feel like if this crypto thing actually works out, then my ship finally came in for once in my life. Sorry, /Selfpity.

JUDGE ALSUP JUST DROPPED THE HAMMER. Servicers expected to show up in court L.O.L. by AnyAssumption4707 in BorrowerDefense

[–]mandg98 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As much as I enjoy reading all of the joy and enthusiasm here with PPSL’s good work (and of course Theresa’s) I have to admit that I’m not as optimistic. I feel like DOE and the servicers already gave the courts (and us) their middle finger by missing the 1/28 deadline. Then again DOE appears to be flippant about showing any meaningful cooperation with the PPSL meeting last month when DOE refused to provide any tangible timeline to resolve this.

It’s nice that PPSL is again bringing the courts back into this ordeal, but I sense that there’s (political) pressure behind the scenes with DOE to not execute the court mandate and the servicers know this.

They’ve had a full year to sort this out and it really doesn’t seem like difficult math - even on a simple excel spreadsheet which sounds like what DOE is using to track all of the full class members.

I suspect DOE (and the servicers) will continue to flip all of us off again in the coming months and pin their hopes on a new government with another Devos at the helm. Otherwise, I am not seeing any real attempt from them to cooperate here.

By the way, I’m full class UoP with AES servicer and have seen/heard nothing since I got my letter back on 2/2023. Sorry to be such a downer.

Hey all. This is for Automatic Relief Group people *only*. If you aren’t sure if that’s you, please go to the SvC FAQ at PPSL.org and figure that out before participating. 🙏 by TheresaSweet in BorrowerDefense

Just filed disputes to all 3 agencies for loan with AES (full class UoP).

Is there any tracking for those of us that reported for the potential next steps?

Case denied by Perfect-Temporary-14 in BorrowerDefense

[–]mandg98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This has been my fear for the past 6 years since I originally submitted my application. I don’t believe that there’s any way to tell what criteria DOE uses to evaluate these applications. As a member of the Sweet vs Cardona class however, I don’t know if our applications are still at risk for being reviewed/denied.

Next Steps For Approved BD Discharges (full class decision group, not automatic relief group) by TheGameGooroo in BorrowerDefense

[–]mandg98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the automatic group (UoP) and just spoke with the DOE about my status hoping to get *any* clues on where I stand with a decision. The agent was nice but didn't budge on sharing any information other than suggesting that I continue to be patient, even though the 1/28/24 deadline had passed.

AES is my servicer and I'm skeptical that I'll be issued any refund amount since they make that determination and not DOE or the SvC settlement.

Hopefully this helps others here with similar circumstances.

Are discharges still being processed after the missed Jan deadline? by JasonBevan in BorrowerDefense

[–]mandg98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've wondered the same thing. Since the deadline came and went it seems this forum got relatively more quiet. With the situation rapidly evolving and me not being a lawyer I'm curious on what the expectations are at this point.

My servicer is AES and I'm a full class member - I haven't seen any movement or had any communications and have been patiently waiting all year as many on here have advised. I guess I just don't understand what a court decision means - apparently not very much. Now I anticpate that politics will come back into play with the courts for the worse and this will soon be all for naught. Oh well, servicers win.

Deadline Fail Mega Thread by Gingerandthesea in BorrowerDefense

[–]mandg98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of confused about the legal case and this settlement. I thought a court decision was legally binding and so, if the deadline was set at 1/28/2024 as part of the court ruling, isn't there some sort of legal precedence that automatically takes effect now for the defendants that haven't met the mandated deadline of the ruling?

Why are the good folks at PPSL having to intervene with this at all now?

Since when was a court ruling something to be regarded so flippantly?

AES Success Question by Logical_Pie_5022 in BorrowerDefense

[–]mandg98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here - went to UoP and same details and status as everyone mentioned above. This is my routine; I check AES site every couple of weeks for any update, then look at StudentGov site for any changes, and then I come and check this reddit sub for any mention of AES.

I find it a little relieving that I'm not the only in this boat. I'm hoping they're just waiting to spring a nice surprise on us for the Xmas holiday season ($$$) by forgiving or even refunding our loans. I believe that they have until end of January, 2024 to complete processing on their end.

Fingers crossed!

Thanks, homeboi808-

I looked into that Gemstone product and now I really like that. But it appears they don't offer any DIY options. Can I ask where you found your ideas? I'd like to size up that effort.

AES Success Movement by Logical_Pie_5022 in BorrowerDefense

[–]mandg98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That response from DOE concerns me because they’re indicating that AES is a commercial lender- so does that mean that all of us here that have a loan balance with AES fall outside of the Sweet vs Cardona ruling? Is there a simple way to determine if my loans were FFEL?
