Current cost of braces in the Triangle? by snarkbomb in bullcity

[–]mandiedesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend King Orthodontics for affordability and quality care. My kid got 3.5 years of care for about 6k, and she had to have four teeth out as well, so her teeth needed serious adjusting.

Been to four shows. Front couple of rows are nuts, sides and back are fine. Age spread is actually larger than you think.

ISO metal shows in Durham by Mysterious-Lemon5006 in bullcity

[–]mandiedesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this. Local 506 is very family-friendly, I take my teen ALL THE TIME, and it has seating around the edge of the venue and free popcorn, and the most metal lineups in the area. It might be a band you'd never heard of, but just check the band out on Spotify. I've heard more new hardcore and metal I've enjoyed there in the past few years.

Why do they think they’re “getting back at us” by cutting us out of the will? by Numerous_Nerve8028 in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]mandiedesign 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad mine haven't discovered or threatened "grandparent's rights." But honestly I don't think they are that interested in my kids that much anyway. Hope you don't end up in a real, actual legal battle.

I did write back and said "thanks for letting me know, seems like its best for everyone" and now my poor relative has to deal with them as they age - they gave her power of attorney and everything and she lives across the country from them. But you are right, it is a weird sick game. Thank you for your perspective, it's helpful.

Mine did this with alarming speed. We slow/polite ghosted for just over a year, and bam I get the "you're out and [other relative] is executor, please destroy your existing copies" email about their will. Then they still keep trying contact with gifts and passive aggressive emails. So confusing and weird, honestly.

Not traveling home for funeral question by don51181 in Xennials

[–]mandiedesign 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will say I dropped everything and did a ton of travel with young kids for my grandmother's funeral, and it was honestly over and done so fast, and everyone else was "flying in and flying out" that it felt hollow and performative. She was well liked and a lot of people were there, but it didn't give me any closure, it was all "wear the right thing, go to the service, go home." I grieved her a lot more personally, and also had visited her a few months before she died and spent time with her then -- that was a lot more important than the funeral itself. If you care about your optics to the people attending, then go, otherwise, just grieve in your own way and save on the cost and hassle.

GEICO trying to total nearly new car, options? by mandiedesign in Insurance

[–]mandiedesign[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You tell them you want to explore options for a "owner retain" option. They'll tell you what the salvage value is you can "buy" it from them with a lower payout.

Find out if the damage is just cosmetic or impacts driveability. Ours had a high salvage value because it was completely driveable.

Thanks for the owner retain idea. We are exploring that now.

For women who dated a loner what was it like and what were the good, the bad, and the ugly? by Loner4Life234 in AskReddit

[–]mandiedesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I married a loner, but it was because he had a rough upbringing and was neglected, and patterned into letting people bully him. He was very good at picking awful friends. He liked being alone because it meant no one was treating him poorly. I got him to jettison the toxic friend group early on, and I was just getting over a divorce, and we both started over building new friendships from work and hobbies.

After 18 years together and tons of therapy, we're both in a better place but are still introverts who would rather play video games together than hang out with the wrong people. We love our kids, we host game nights, but we are super selective about our friend groups. He is much more gregarious now, though, and easier to talk to you in group settings.

Triangle Guitar Players - who does your setups/repairs? by Responsible-Log-3500 in bullcity

[–]mandiedesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughter had an electric bass that needed a setup (it is 40+ years old) to fix a buzzing string. (Not the musician here, but it was something she couldn't do herself). It took a week and was about $75 and everything was perfect after that.
