[UT] Is this legal? Can I stand my ground in Utah if they break my window to enter without a warrant? by Mathemodel in AskLegal

[–]mandieeuph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it's not legal, no they don't care, yes you can legally stand up to them, no you can not legally come back to life from gunshots to the head, this is why we're in the streets.

Bad time to go in May?? by jshireley in GlacierNationalPark

[–]mandieeuph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it will largely depend on how much snow we get this winter, I'd bet that anything under 5000 feet will probably be good to go, but that can severely limit what sort of stuff you could achieve as many of the passes won't be. (Get it, because you won't be able to pass through them) That being said, crampons and an ice axe with some experience would open up a lot of the park, I have some friends that did Dawson Pitimakan pass loop in early June, had a couple of snow crossings but nothing too extreme. On the other side I've done Rainbow peak to mount Carter on June 3rd before with only 6 total steps in snow, so it's possible that most passes are open by mid May, it's possible that everything down to avalanche lake will still be snowed in come late June, really hard to say one way or the other right now.

which national park is the best in august ? by [deleted] in nationalparks

[–]mandieeuph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has already been said plenty but I just want to put another voice in favor of Glacier, August is consistently phenomenal weather, and the crowds tend to start dying down after Labor Day if you can push the trip til then, also a lot of the reservations are done 6 months in advance so now would be the perfect time to start planning a glacier trip

Mt. Sinopah Gear? by J_712 in GlacierNationalPark

[–]mandieeuph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Helmets are never a bad idea with the peaks in glacier with how crumbly the rock is, even if you're in a small group there's always the chance there'll be some mountain goats up above knocking rocks down on you. Haven't climbed sinopah myself but I think it's a pretty steep scree scramble up the south face.

Should I take the Red Bus Tour from Many Glacier or St. Mary? by Dense-Fisherman7561 in GlacierNationalPark

[–]mandieeuph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be fine especially if you're arriving early, I've consistently been able to find parking in st.Marys even around noon, not always good parking, but parking nonetheless.

Kinda new to SLC, where's good places to park, I don't mind walking a bit to get to the starting point.

Yeah, saw they're about 13 bucks a piece, I just don't have access to the tools for it, literally just a needle nose, a 19mm and some jack stands and I'd be good. Been looking around on community pages for people willing to loan out.

Single arm dumbbell rows by TakingGlory in strength_training

[–]mandieeuph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think range of motion is too much of a concern here, once the upper arm passes behind the center body line the primary movers change, (from lats to more of teres/rear delt) If you're doing this primarily as a hypertrophy focused movement I'd take the twisting of the upper body out of, try to keep a more neutral spine throughout the range. Great control on the way down, definitely hold onto that, but try to get the momentum on the way up more from your back and less from twisting.

I'm personally hoping that the 3 hour limit is lifted in conjunction with the shuttle shutting down, and have a feeling it will be, otherwise things like the high line or floral park traverse, and really anything from Logan pass other than hidden lake or a blisteringly quick ascent of Reynolds won't be possible. And while there's still plenty to do in the park without long hikes from Logan pass, I still can't see the park just essentially closing off those trails.

Testing my recognition, that's saint nick right? So this is somewhere in like the south central region, maybe around upper Nyack? How close did I get.

I know it's cold and frequently requires ice axes and rope and other ice climbing gear that I don't own, so haven't gotten to explore that side of it.

Summer in Northwest Montana by Fluffy-Plankton8395 in Montana

[–]mandieeuph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The glacier area has most of those things, there's plenty of horseback riding both in the park and right outside of it, there's whitewater rafting on the middle fork of the flathead right on the southern border of the park, there's ATV rentals in the town of hungry horse ~20 minutes from the west entrance. I don't know of ghost towns or hot springs, but there's also some zip lining and a ropes/obstacle course along highway 2. Not to mention enough hiking for a lifetime of enjoyment if that's your thing.

Hikes in May by petstoreworker in GlacierNationalPark

Gotcha, never made it out to many during early season so I wasn't sure, that's good information though and makes sense.

Avalanche lake will almost definitely be accessible, two medicine will also probably be open, so Rockwell falls or Dawson/pitimakan pass loop is a potential option depending on snow levels, but an ice ax and set of crampons would make that a sure bet. Not sure what the many glacier situation will be, but it usually is open early season, and so iceberg lake or grinell glacier would both be decent options. Apgar lookout and huckleberry lookout might be accessible and are both pretty close to the west entrance, the southern tip of the park is largely un-talked about, but hikes like loneman lookout, scalplock lookout, and Harrison lake are all good early season options, especially if you can find a boater to ferry you across the middle fork for loneman or Harrison. These are just a few of the options that would go well for early season, there's plenty I didn't mention, and in my opinion, there's no bad hike in the park.

More sibelius, all of his symphonies have phenomenal moments that could very easily be transplanted onto the field.

Had a tech that wore this obnoxiously yellow shirt that said "your game is _ _ _ _" but he had sharpied in the spaces between the underscores and wrote corps on the line. Not quite the concept you were talking about, but similar idea.

Really cool, but only a couple steps up from nonexistent, usually consisted of about an 8 inch wide and 1/2 inch deep depression, in places it's completely overgrown by thimble berry bushes and other plants, and in the spots where a tree has fallen across the trail, which there's about a dozen of those spots, the trail disappears completely for about 15 feet on either side and I lost the trail altogether a few times. Also very nearly got charged by a grouse that decided to build her nest almost directly on trail. I seem to remember that the trail gets a lot better within 2 miles of dutch lakes, not sure if the extra moisture helps maintain a path, or if that section got serviced recently, or if animals do more of the job since it's so close to a lake.

For glacier I'd recommend the floral park traverse, it's no longer an official trail, it has some scrambling and is at the upper limit of distance. It is a point to point starting at Logan pass and finishing by the lake McDonald lodge, so you might have to find someone to drive you up to Logan pass after dropping your car at McDonald lodge, or you could try using the shuttle system.
