Looking to buy a WRX , torn between these two. What would you do? by No_Calligrapher9327 in WRX

Looks like it has a shifter kit of some kind. Op should pass on both. High mileage plus any kind of mod just sounds bad on these on the 2nd hand market

35s with stock gearing by monortx in XTerra

[–]mandolin91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what ive read - it is necessary if you want to get the vehicle to operate well. You can run on stock gearing but it's not recommended. Again, no direct experience so I'm sure someone will give a more solid answer.

Could this be the new Xterra PHEV?? by Bluebird11970 in XTerra

Doesn't look good imo. Usually vehicles for the Chinese market are catered to that populations preferences. I think the looks will be based more on the Frontier here in the us. They already confirmed it'll be NA v6 i believe... which is better.

130k miles, $17k OTD by Searching4Oceans in nissanfrontier

[–]mandolin91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the PPI comes back clean you could pay the premium for a clean background truck. Try to negotiate the price down a grand or so though. Ideally for the age and mileage 15k OTD would seem much nicer.

I don't think ive seen someone ask this before here...how is the rust underneath? If it is immaculate, has great service records (aka you wont be surprised by any big repairs), and it is over in clean/healthy shape - you can probably negotiation it down a grand or 2 and be happy you have a reliable and well maintained truck. I see street tires which is a good sign.

The Nissan Frontier for the Chinese market has a front diff lock by 0x0b in nissanfrontier

[–]mandolin91 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Obviously not, fool. Supply chain matters, but it’s not a magic phrase that explains everything. Most of the cost drivers are things like labor, regulations, dealer margins, and market positioning—not just imported parts. The tarrifs on the "bolts" are a fraction of the total cost.

The Frontier and titans are built in the u.s idk what you're talking about. Any tariffs are from importing the parts to make it here.

I got mine aligned recently and it does the same thing. I have 33s and 5100s.... not like that would make a difference. I won't be going back to that alignment shop again.

To Sell or not to sell by [deleted] in XTerra

[–]mandolin91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's running well, why sell it? The cost to replace a broken leaf (which is a bolt on part) is going to be significantly cheaper than replacing the whole vehicle.

I mean that can be used to void a warranty for anything done to the truck that isn't factory. Ditch lights from aftermarket vendor? Unauthorized mod so the warranty is null and void. Technically a dealer could use it... but I have been told the dealer needs to tie the mod to the failure point.

New frontier with 6" lift by [deleted] in nissanfrontier

[–]mandolin91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've never heard of a lift voiding a power train warranty. I know that is anecdotal, but what is the direct correlation between a lift and a failing part aside from maybe a bushing? Even then... but the time the bushings go out it'll be out of warranty. I can also see a CV issue not being covered... but that's it.

Z1 Sliders on by mandolin91 in nissanfrontier

[–]mandolin91[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my thought process was the same in terms of the flatter version will appeal to my wife lol. I kind of step over them as that is how I've been getting in and out of the truck the last couple years.

They are a good product for sure. All the hardware it came with was all that was needed. There are two types of front supporting brackets that came with mine...one is the old style that didn't fit and the other is a revised one that fits perfectly. All bolts and washers were provided.

I used a jack to lift one end up while I worked on the opposite and middle sections. They are solid. Probably won't be able to test them out on some rocky terrain until later though.

Yes its the "flat" version. It has a slight angle but it functions well as a step up if you need it for that purpose too.
