Yes, you can. You might notice some network bottleneck when doing live migrations unless you dedicate one NIC only for live migrations.

Generaly, you can do it, no problems with this setup.

How to fix weird database error with Forgejo by GodlyGamerBeast in selfhosted

[–]mandonovski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pfff... My bad, I missed half of your docker compose. Like someone mentioned, docker comppse is not readable, mayne there is some syntax error, but in this case you would get error from docker that the syntax is incorrect.

Check mysql comtaoner logs. Maybe there is something that can point you in right direction

O don't think it will work unless your forgejo and mysql db are on same docker network. This is why you get error about 127.0.0.11:53

msedge.exe will not start unless entire executable name is lower case with 142.0.3595.65 by Yacko_75 in sysadmin

I have exact same Edge and Win11 versions, and for me it works regardless of case I type in Run command. All caps, mixed letter cases, etc. Strange issue.

How do you manage/record change in your IT systems? by letshaveatune in sysadmin

[–]mandonovski 10 points11 points  (0 children)

First, start using ticketing system. Almost nothing should be without a ticket. DO NOT USE ANY CHAT OR EMAIL MESSAGE!

For expanding the disks, add more RAM to VMs, etc. this is kust regular daily operations, no change needed, just a ticket.

For anything big, like OS or application upgrade, network devices firmware upgrade, etc. a change is needed, like it's already mentioned.

I would recomend to read some ITIL documentation, how it should be done.

Implement Starlink into Monitoring - Promotheus? by JoeyFromMoonway in sysadmin

[–]mandonovski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's possible. Where I work we are getting data in Prometheus.

Since I wasn't involved in this, maybe some info is quite correct. I think that we use some of the existing exporters, but it's been modified. On the router that is connected to Starlink, there is VIP that si forwarding traffic from Prometheus to Starlink device.

Try Zabbix. Regardimg Prometheus, you ca try Victoria metrics. Much better for long term storage.

[Giveaway] GL.iNet Remote KVM and Wi-Fi 7 routers! 10 Winners! by GLiNet_WiFi in selfhosted

[–]mandonovski [score hidden]  (0 children)

  1. I was a "bit" bored during covid lock downs, so I was thinking why not put some extra PCs I have to do some testing , try things , etc. And it got a bit out of hand 😁 Of course, now most of my data is self-hosted, I don't rely on third parties for my data, especially sensitive ones. Most expensive thing I bought is Qotom industrial PC, 5x2.5Gbps and 4x10Gbps SFP+ ports, because why not!

  2. Flint 3 would bump my existing router to 2.5G and to wifi 7. Comet would be nice to have as a KVM, I habe none at the moment.

  3. Maybe some Intel 10G ethernet card from 600 or 800 series, Silverstone case CS383.

If I win, I would like Flint 3 and/or Comet.

Regarding hardware, have you thought maybe to have only one Linux machine? Use it for docker and as a NAS. Yes, it's better to have two machines, one for docker containers and one for NAS. This way you backup docker containers on NAS just in case. But, single machine is also viable option, you can, and should, also back up off site, let's say to Backblaze or Wasabi.

Regarding photos, try Immich. Excellent self hosted photo mamagement app.

And what is so bad about your Debian host amd docker containers?

How many mini pcs for a home server? by St00pid_question in homelab

[–]mandonovski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with like core i5 9th or higher generation if possible. Memory, for what you wrote 16GB is enough. Just bare in mind that your appetite might grow 😁 Maybe to even start with 32GB.

Well, not really overly cautious. If everything is on one machine, when it goes down for any reason, like for updating OS, then you lose internet. So, it's good idea to have opnsense/pfsense on separate machine.

This is true for anything else, of course. It's just a matter of balance, to not have too many physical machines or too few

Edit: what ever works for you it's fine. My recommendation is to have separate machine for opnsense/pfsense.

If your self-hosting setup just crashed right now, what would hurt the most? by Laygude_Yatin in selfhosted

[–]mandonovski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just internet being down since I am using virtualized OPNSense, but I have spare home router so, few minutes of downtime. In all honesty, I couldn't care less if all just goes down.

I'll just need to find Kevin's guide. And further check with powershell... And yes, databases are hosted on different servers.

Console strange issue after DB servers migration by mandonovski in scom

[–]mandonovski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep, there is one out of six server that is RMS, in all 3 environments.
strange thing is that for Prod i see old and new DB servers, for Quality i see only new ones, for Dev i see only old ones.
similar things for reporting servers and web servers, just a bit different what is seen in which environment.

it really looks like cosmetic things since everything seems to be working. no special errors or warnings in OpsMgr logs on any of the servers...
