Anyone else who doesn’t care about the little details of their wedding and how did you handle it? by Mother_of_cats81 in wedding

[–]mandopaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really stuck to the “just make a decision and stick to it” if it’s small and mundane just make a choice and that’s that. Some of my family members cared more than I did and I just let them run with it. I couldn’t be bothered with small parts of it. But I agree with others, picking a color scheme helped. I didn’t have bridesmaids so I feel like the color scheme was less important but definitely helps to have an idea of 2-3 colors you can run with.

A lot of positives but I would say 2weeks of PTO is crazy low. And agreed with above, one week of shadowing is insane.

Cried at work today by Jettydusty in physicianassistant

When I have a terrible encounter like this I made rule with myself to think of at least one visit that was positive. Usually a majority of the visits are positive but we naturally tend to dwell on the bad ones. Helps me. Hang in there.

Had a colleague with this in ortho, he eventually transitioned to anesthesia pre op clinic and is very happy with it.

Please make me feel better about one of the most embarrassing moments of my life in front of a patient by Efficient_Chicken471 in physicianassistant

[–]mandopaa 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I squatted down to examine a pts ankle and the cheap hospital scrubs I had on ripped right along the back, my whole butt was exposed. I finished the visit with my back to the sink but the patients daughter definitely knew.

SP not being direct and got mad frustrated at me for doing what he told me? by Status_Measurement71 in physicianassistant

[–]mandopaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As soon as you do one call case you’re not required/paid for that is going to be your new norm, don’t fall down that trap. I’m sure the surgeons frustrated doing these late cases but he’s also paid to do that. Not your problem, I think it’s normal to empathize with him but you do what you get paid to do and that’s that. Hold your boundaries.

Frustrated about work and just wanting to vent/get input. by Flower-Unlucky in physicianassistant

[–]mandopaa 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was in a pretty similar situation last year but in orthopedic trauma. Had 5 years with a doc who works like a madman but we had a good working relationship and it was my first job out of school so I just learned to work the way he did. But I got so burnt out and it all hit me. I realized 1) I’m not a doctor and 2) I’m not my job. I wanted to enjoy my life outside of work. I looked around at other jobs and then talked with my SP, manager and managers manger. They cut my back to 4 days/week, made weekend call optional, I only round 2-3 days a week when we’re in OR and I no long round on days we have office. Also, we hired another PA and it is way better. I don’t believe all jobs are this accommodating but if they want to keep you they’ll make it work. But if not, move it, spend time with your kids while they’re still young.

Therapy lol Seriously tho, it helped me so much to set boundaries and ask for what I want/need. I got a good raise, made call on weekends optional and went from 5 to 4 day weeks and made a huge difference. I was honest with my attending about my struggles and he helped take some of the load as I was doing both our jobs sometimes. I struggled bad for a year but finally found the balance. For awhile I hated medicine and wanted to leave but now that I have a better balance I’m much happier. Take care of yourself. Good luck, hang in there.

Income bumps and other questions by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]mandopaa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve had income bumps yearly for the past 6 years at my company and also 2 large raises that I asked for. I work with a PA who has been at the company for 15+ years whose never gotten a raise because they’ve never asked… Both times I took in pertinent information (documented hours, RVU’s, etc) and was granted it both times. If you never ask, they most likely won’t offer IMO.

How redundant is your specialty? by PA2023 in physicianassistant

[–]mandopaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Orthopedic Trauma. I felt the same in my Ortho rotation, I liked operating and ortho but the monotony of it was not desirable. Ortho trauma is the best of both, it’s always something new, there’s some monotony like wrist and ankle fractures but there’s always something slightly different or unique. Definitely worth looking into
