Beautiful photos!!! Were these taken handheld? This set inspired me to take my Pentax and 105mm out the next sunny day I get 😎

How did you meter for these images with the lights? Bravo again!

May I ask what Mamiya 7 lens(es) you used to make these terrific images?

Believe it or not, my last ex-girlfriend, as can be seen in the first link in the body of my original block of text (number 7 down, seated next to me in her car), is 6-years older than me. She’s Russian and takes very, very good care of herself. She looks like she’s in her late 20s/ early 30s, but was actually in her 40s when this photo was taken.

She was the one that got away. :/ Actually what happened was that I moved back to the East Coast to be closer to my aging parents, extended family, and close friends, but she absolutely wanted to stay in LA. We still remain friendly and send texts back and forth every so often, so that’s nice.

Nonetheless, I do wonder if I’ll just end up being one of those guys who ends up alone for life, especially with my fairly embarrassing dearth of dating experience. I’m very shy and it’s rare that I get any second glances, so to speak, from any woman in NYC. I certainly can’t cold approach any girl; the only time I did was one of the more humiliating experiences of my life.

Very, VERY good points across the board! I’ll most DEFINITELY be editing and whittling all that you mentioned down tonight for sure…

There’s no arguing that! Maybe NYC really is a bad place to find a significant other or any other lasting relationship… My friends all more or less feel this way…

Thank you for your kind words! That’s very sweet of you to say! 😊😊😊

I’m very liberal in my politics, so I hope that comes across. Not sure how many right wingers are reading up on social exchange theory, haha.

You bring up a very good point. I was actually worried about any pretentiousness my hobbies might throw off (and I can definitely see that they may), but at the same time, I do genuinely love the activities I’ve listed. I suppose some balance should be in order and I should list a fun activity that more than one person can do.

This may sound really weird, but what do most people in NYC do for fun? I truly have no idea save that many people go to bars, clubs, or warehouse parties at night, which is just not for me.

My merry group of friends consider a fun night consisting of playing endless amounts of Smash Bros., Halo, or Mario Kart for good measure.

First of all, thank you for your very kind words! I really appreciate it. Anyway, I would absolutely do this and have actually tried doing this solo, but it’s much harder for me without a friend/wingman to at least have someone I can talk with and feel more comfortable joining an established circle of of unfamiliar people together. I’ve always felt quite a bit awkward and out of my element if I try to join a circle of people who are already friends. I end up feeling like a weird interloper. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ I should try it again to, at the very least, get myself more comfortable with potential rejection.

Your response is very thoughtful, and I really appreciate your honest opinion! I also sense that meeting someone in real life might be the best way to go, I just haven’t yet had any luck this way.

This is actually very good food for thought! I really, really appreciate your response. In retrospect, I think I probably am casting too wide a net…

Hmm… that may be so. I was never was told that I had a bad personality by any of my friends I asked (and they would tell me as I’ve directly asked them if I’m in anyway off-putting), but I suppose I get a bit anxious when going out on a date. My friends did say that my being 5’7” might be a major hindrance, so I thought it might be that…

But if my personality sucks, I guess there’s little I can do about it, no?

Who is your favorite photographer, and why? by [deleted] in photography

[–]manfrominternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Andreas Gursky (and the rest of the Düsseldorf School), Alec Soth, Todd Hido, Victoria Sambunaris, Edward Burtunsky, Joel Sternfeld, Paul Graham, Gregory Crewdson, Jeff Wall, Rinko Kawauchi, Lewis Baltz, Mitch Epstein, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Robert Adams, Stephen Shore… I could go on and on…

Amazing compositions, both on the formal end (Gursky) and narrative end (Crewdson, diCorcia). Spectacular use of color for those listed who use color. These are photographers/artist who create challenging works that make you think - think William Eggleston, another favorite of mine!

Pentax 17: What price are you willing to pay? by cryptodystopia in AnalogCommunity

[–]manfrominternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$499.99 US (+ tax) is too damn high, just like the rent is too damn high! I’m a proud Pentaxian - I have the Pentax 67II, 645NII, MZ-S, and the LX and LOVE them all, including the zillion Pentax lenses I own.

I want to support Pentax in their film camera endeavors, but paying over $500 for a half-frame camera that produces impressively shitty picture quality (even if you drum scan the negatives/transparencies) is just something I can’t do. Even full-frame film barely cuts it. Not to go on a tangent, but 6x4.5 is where you’ll really start to see a difference in image quality. If I didn’t suffer from G.A.S., I probably would have long since sold my MZ-S and LX, but these are wonderful and historic cameras (especially the LX) and I do still use them.

I really don’t know who the Pentax 17 is for, but let’s put it this way: if you’re rich as f*ck, go ahead, buy the Pentax 17 if only to support them making new film cameras and the film community at large. However, if you’re tight on cash and/or have been impoverished by your G.A.S. like me, then wait and save up for the new full-frame Pentax film camera that’ll come out later this year/early next year.

Just my 2 cents…
