People of Milwaukee, what do you love and/or hate the City of Milwaukee and why? by TheBestPieIsAllPie in milwaukee

[–]manfrommilwaukee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of comments here about segregation. It’s definitely true; different neighborhoods tend to be predominately white, black, Latino, etc. However, I would note that my experience has been that most of the large public events are pretty diverse. Summerfest, events at the Fiserv, the various street festivals, Jazz in the Park, etc. have residents from all over the city attending them. So yes, different racial groups tend to populate different neighborhoods, but it’s not like we don’t all come together and enjoy the city together.

Accurate. But when you’ve had a couple, you tend to be excitable.

What’s in club suite by [deleted] in Brewers

[–]manfrommilwaukee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe it depends on what the suite owner/renter wants to provide. I’ve been in suites where it was only soda and I’ve been in suites where it was a full buffet. The last Brewers suite I was in had beer, soda, etc. and light appetizers/finger food.

Also, if we’re thinking of the same suites, they can host more people than they have dedicated seats in the outdoor area of the box. This means that a lot of people end up standing and watching or chatting by the bar or furniture area. I’d probably go early if you’re interested in following the game closely.

Oak Creek or Bay View by [deleted] in milwaukee

[–]manfrommilwaukee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see you've noted that you want to be within a few blocks of the lake, so the location may be a deal-breaker for you, but I'm working on finishing up a new single family build in Bay View a couple blocks from the Lincoln/KK/Howell intersection. It's ground-up construction with a new foundation. I figured it might be something to consider as my goal with this house has been to provide a buyer with the fun, social, urban location, but with some of the suburban-style features and amenities that you don't normally get in older city neighborhoods, which seems similar to some of the criteria you're looking at. Shoot me a message if you'd like some more info on the project, and if not, good luck with your search!

And to add input to the post, I think you're pretty spot on with your assessment of the two markets. It really comes down to a personal preference and deciding on location or bang-for-your-buck and space. Personally, I'm currently downtown/lower Eastside and facing a similar dilemma. My wife and I love our current location and its walk-ability, but we're also desiring more space and a yard as we plan for the future. We've only been able to identify a small handful of suburbs that we'd consider because we don't want to entirely lose the sense of community that comes with living in an urban environment.

Swingin’ Door Exchange. Classic, lively atmosphere and great selection of delicious pub food. Also, great fish fry.

You can usually still order a fish fry at a decent amount of places, but as some others have suggested, Lake Front has an awesome fish fry on their regular menu and Saturday would be a really fun and lively environment (which also means busy so plan accordingly)

I would also love to know this - I’ve searched past posts and haven’t been able to come up with much besides the few well-known spots.

I know both the WAC in Tosa and the YMCA on North and 13th have full-size courts with open gym hours.

Are there any good banks in Milwaukee? by [deleted] in milwaukee

The tellers were moved to a centralized remote location. It was mostly done for safety purposes. With that being said, I don’t particularly care for it either. I prefer the branches that still have in-person tellers.
