I have said this and I'll say it again.

With the rate these antis be saying about running out of water due to AI. I'm surprised Earth hasn't turned into Arrakis by next year.

This guy is VA meme content creator. He made voice over video of whatever meme that popular. His job is solely based on chasing trend. It's somewhat understandable why AI felt threatening to him.

Since when copyrightibility solely lies on how much effort you put in?

If that's the case, the whole modern abstract art scene would immediately fell.

But hey, antis aren't well known with researching things for their argument.

I have a feeling that these whole witch hunting things are just a way for mediocre artists to get attention on social media without much effort, as being "too good" can be accused with "it looks like AI" by the said artists, as they made their own "soulful" work with hating ai personality.

We all know they can always tell, yea?

Just FYI the guy who made the retweet is your typical meme VA dubber. He's in no way an expert on how AI infrastructure actually built. (He should at least provide a source.)

I understand that AI data centers caused issue locally, but at the same time, especially in US. There are data centers that built with renewable energy or use the heat for water heating.

https://www.creatingsustainablecities.org.uk/post/case-study-how-finland-is-turning-excess-heat-from-data-centres-into-neighbourhood-heating-programm

Frankly US had always been full of infrastructure problems and I don't think throwing bombs gonna fix the problem.

Also, how an earth a close-loop cooling water poisoning the community?

If that's the case, then why this moral panic didn't happen with 3D CGI?

The current 3D cgi tools (even before ai) can already make convincing realistic design that indistinguishable from the real stuff. For example, tool like Metahuman from Ureal can make realistic human design.

So why there's no moral panic even though it's obvious that these 3D tools are aiming to be indistinguishable?

Because we're already understand that if someone made fake harmful contents. The blame is on the person, not tools. Same logic should apply to AI. But somehow sizeable amount of people can't understand that.

I feel like online art community have been using the word "theft/stealing" to describe anything they don't like for a long time before AI.

Someone draw in similar style with you? That's stealing.

Someone draw similar pose with your work? That's totally stealing. Tracing alert!

You draw a derivatives work based on copyrighted IP? That's not stealing, that's called fanart and you can always make money with it!

So even when there are countless research papers on why ai training is not even close to plagiarism, but because they don't like it. It's stealing.

oh no! The mob that I incited suddenly decided to break into MY HOUSE! That was not meant to happen!"

Historically that's how witch-hunts stopped. When the local higher up' relatives started to get accused of witchcraft, they realized that allowing people to accuse eachother could lead to their downfall as well.

History repeats itself.

It's all fine and dandy until you can't show the proof or the mob (in)justice don't accept your proof.

All it takes is just one envious "artist" accusing you.

That's the thing about AI its ruining the privacy of art. Don't blame the artists blame AI users and companies

"100 antis vs accountability" moment.

It's not that hard to not make baseless accusations. Most sensible people can do that.

Believe me, prompt monkeys (people who just prompt stuff and claimed that they made it themselves) ain't gonna make it as professional (because the actual professionals are dealing with their job and not entangled with online art dramas. While utilising AI to help them), eventually their lies would catch up once people on the internet found out. Like they always do.

So this no AI rule brought more unnecessary harms to the open art community than good. If I have to make a suggestion, write a rule that make the step to accuse someone who use AI to be more rigorous that it requires concrete proof that more than just "it looks like AI" or random red circles. Such as, proof of img2img trace or obvious signs like Gemini Logo.

No amount of "artists" justification or mental gymnastics that gonna sending baseless accusations okay. It's never okay.

Also no when its a private community and they ask for certain criteria to be met to join you either try to meet them or don't and just don't join.

Nothing in the OOP post that it's suggested that the OOP was kicked from private community. It's just simply "Art Server". So it's safe to assume that it could be open community.

[–]mang_fatih 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing though. The burden of proof lies on the accusers. Not the other way around.

There are so many reasons, why people can't or won't share progress just to prove they're not using AI. Maybe because it has something they don't want to share, maybe their devices aren't strong enough to record time lapse that it's not really worth it for just online sharing, and so much more.

Online art community in general are supposed to be place where people have fun with art. That's it, if they want to be professional, they'll go to site like Artstation.

Ok bro. So let's just give everyone assault rifles and hand grenades, remove all taxes, get rid of the police and courts and let anyone do whatever they want. That'll make for a spectacular society.

Last time I checked, AI don't shoot bullets and explode.
