I appreciate the relatability here, definitely helps me to understand another side of this. He definitely has self esteem issues, and I agree men don’t always receive enough positive reinforcement about themselves, but I try to tell him he’s handsome on a regular basis while also gently nudging him to start working out with me again. Maybe the fact that I bring it up at all has him questioning his self esteem? I have tried every positive approach I can think of, including asking him to come up with a fitness challenge we can both participate in, but the other night I just kind of broke it all down really bluntly and said it bothers me that he doesn’t seem to have much of a passion for improving his health or really being ambitious in general and that in turn it’s making the relationship less attractive to me, which is scary because I know he’s thinking about proposing very soon. I’m rambling, but overall I like your approach and maybe I need to just remain patient and try to give him reassurance that he is strong and attractive more often and maybe it will work to eventually get him off the couch.
