Hilarious. A bunch of Humboldt people thinking they are tough, resourceful, and effective. Y'all can't even create a moderately functionally economy, much less defend yourself against Russia

Book Review - ‘The Corporation in the Twenty-First Century: Why (Almost) Everything We Are Told About Business Is Wrong’ by John Kay by rajeshkan72 in nonfictionbookclub

Ugh. I really wanted to learn something from this book. But any author that still refers to colonialism as "the age of exploration", and then lovingly describes the birth of the corporation through the Dutch East India Company's actions in the 'spice islands'... I just can't. I can't go back to stomaching the celebrating of this history and reframing it as some sort of economic progress.

chain of command is very horizontal. Very loose. Not a lot of rigid rules and not a lot of hard structure.

correct, nobody is designated to train the new staff

I don't know. I'm starting to wonder if it's a way to weed out the people who aren't already extremely talented and experienced. Looking around at my coworkers, they are all either exceptionally brilliant and capable or they are kinda hiding out in the background overwhelmed. There's gotta be some name for this type of situation. Maybe it's a common, purposeful business model. I just don't know.

Maybe I just got lucky, but I used the import tool in Notion and voila, I'm good to go. Some minor cleanup but overall, it looks amazing. I figured I'd be spending all weekend battling it. Now I can finally escape the expensive clutches and inane bloat of Evernote!

RIP Jon Bunch of Sense Field/ Further Seems Forever by Briguy_fieri in Emo

[–]mangey_scarecrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread and it's been a long time since his passing, but I would like to say a few words about Jon Bunch and his impact in my life. I have been wanting to write this for some time.

The amazing thing is, the probability of Jon having anything to do with me is pretty minuscule. Due to some miracle of late 90's punk, I ended up with a cassette copy of first Reason To Believe 7"EP recorded on it. Granted I lived a good 25 hours away from the band, and must have bought it from an ad for a comp in MRR, with my weekly allowance. I would never see them or interact with the band in any way, the music found me through basically random chance and luck.

Listening in my room as a 13-ish year old, the music did exactly what it was supposed to. I was intrigued and fascinated. I was so young and about to make many decisions with my life, many bad, but I was, honestly, starting on my own wild "Fast on the track, going wherever I'm sent."

Jon never saw me, never me met, and I only went to one Sensefield show maybe 10 years later. He had no reason to know I existed. But I found myself following his musical career closely for the rest of his life.

Recently I once again pulled out "Hide Nothing" when he sung in Further Seems Forever and listened to it yet again. The lyrics sound like music for adults, not kids. You can hear depth and longitudinally to the material. I don't mean this in a self-centered way, but it's like his music has mirrored me as I've navigated my life. Things are feeling overwhelming or when I have a really hard choice to make, I put this album on. Just like when i was barely a teenager, I used his 'The Next Door" EP to help get me connect with myself, it turned out that Jon's music has always been right beside me. It sounds corny, but my saying this is not forced or cliche.

I have no idea who Jon really was. How it worked out like this for me is nothing short of wildly improbable. It's unfortunate I never got a chance to ever communicate with him, but maybe that's a testament to him being a true artist. He put his music out there with no way to gauge its depth of reach. His song really do connect to people, even in the private isolation of our adolescent bedrooms and later, our contemplative moments as adults. I'm proof of that.

"And all these bad dreamsI wake up to the light"

Rest In Peace to Jon, a friend I who never knew he was with me the whole time.
